Bandwidth: on dialups and non-cable/T1 sorta connections it's really important, because the more bandwidth there is, the slower the download. (Or something like that.) In some cases, the person paying for the server use gets billed by the amount of bandwidth their page(s) use. Quoth the Wiki:

"In website hosting, the term "bandwidth" is often used metaphorically, to describe the amount of data that can be transferred to or from the website or server, measured in bytes transferred over a prescribed period of time. This can be more accurately described as "Monthly Data Transfer."

Web hosting companies often quote a monthly bandwidth limit for a website, for example 500 gigabytes per month. If visitors to the website download a total greater than 500 gigabytes in one month, the bandwidth limit will have been exceeded."

living at home until 30. well, it does make economic sense. i mean, if you're going to go out and make minimum wage or just slightly more (which with a bachelor of arts degree most do), and if rents are like $900 a month plus bills for an efficiency/studio/one-room apartment... even in my math-impaired brain it's better to have the kid stay at home, kick in some for expenses, and stash the rest away rather than tossing it to a landlord. besides, you wouldn't be able to pay for food, transportation, and your student loan bills for that degree back on what was left over after the rent.

since my kid is an aspie, the getting a roommate and splitting the cost of a two-bedroom place is out of the question, i think. (it would be slightly less than the $900 scenario, but they'd try to kill each other within a month. and the legal fees would just kill me.)
at least if she's living in the basement she can feed the cats when i go on vacation.

I have considered the fact that my boys are Aspies and my daughter has her own challenges. And I have kept the thought of having a basement suite for them in the back of my mind. Just as long as they can take care of themselves while I go to Ireland, Scotland, Germany and Alaska.

Thank you, Sleepy! I'm a frequent visitor at the site you mention (under the name Irish Wolf), and I never did understand what "boards on boards" was supposed to mean. My best guess was that it was some sort of kinky lumber-sex thing, but I guess not... :)

There are exceptions there, though. Each show forum usually includes a "Meet Market" thread (my personal favorite is in the Battlestar Galactica forum, where the thread is called "Coffee at Starbuck's"), in which the posters are free to discuss practically anything except show spoilers (oh, and flames get shut down right quick too).

Most rigidly policed there right now is a ban on discussion of religion - I got my last warning for pointing out the hypocrisy of a Protestant claiming they get to hate gays because they live their lives by every word of the Bible, and yet they eat lobster, and use indoor plumbing...

Well, the site is concerned with TV shows, and the Protestant in question had been on TV (Wife Swap, I think, although since I hadn't watched it, I can't be sure - about all the TV I get to see anymore is BSG, Army Wives, Doctor Who, and the children's TV shows that the kidlets are addicted to). However, I guess the tenor of my post was seen by the hypersensitive as possibly denigratory toward Christianity, or religion, or lobsters, or something...

I want to thank those who offered me their support in pursuing my new obsession.I spent 13 hours researching the potential, online yesterday(when I wasn't being destracted by interesting eblogs and such, along the way.)I swear I can
take 13 hours to do 3 hours of "real work".Does this make me ADD?

The research seemed to point to the potential of this thing working.I promise to "share" when I work out the details.I still dont want to embarrass myself if the project falls through (and I promise I am going to go get my thyroid meds soon.I have missed them for the past 4 days and I believe that accounts for my mania....but I have been enjoying it to much,so putting off returning to my lythargic self).

I'm not quiting my "real job" yet,but I am skipping the staff meeting were they will spend 30 min screaming at us.Honestly,it's not worth the $4.5o to have my day ruined. They would be doing me a favor by firing me.25 years of working and I havent used any of my unemployment money and would LOVE the extra time to spend on my new project....but they will never fire me.I am cursed with being a hard worker,I cant even fake lazy and people already said the other night staff never did any work and they never fired her(she quit to go be a manager at a new Petsmart,8O ,the world is truly insane).

I hope you all have an uneventful day(the opposite of the Chinese curse, that you "live in interesting times"). :D Keep your eyes open for "Aspie Nation",it is connected to my "dream project" and I will need some adult input.

Ahh AH!! Caught you. And another walks through life with this out look. I didn't fail at college, I learned something a long the way.

Humm could I get more of a hint of where I should be looking for this "Aspie Nation"?
Adult input, let me know where you get such a thing, please. Not that I would listen to those people. But I do like to watch them.
Go get em Krex!! !! 8)

Godwit, I don't know if you'd like a bigger version of your avatar?
Image
I slurped the original image from StealThisPicture, trimmed out an appropriate chunk, flipped it and removed the background, to give this hi-res image, then resized it and trimmed it a little, to fit the 140x140, < 16Kbytes rules for avatars.

It's just me. I like messing about with images.

PS. Merle... that Newton's Cradle image... I can't figure out what's going on there. I know it used to work. I saved a copy locally, broke it into the 11 frames (which it did indeed still contain), reassembled it and found I had produced a file all of two bytes larger than the original. Only then did I notice that both worked fine when I pointed the browser straight at the local copies of the images. It's a puzzle. From the web, no animation, locally, animation. Bleugh!

PPS. And then... I used "Web Developer" to disable image animations, then I un-disabled them, and Newton's Cradle rides again! :?: :?
