Were you recently diagnosed?
My son has an ASD and he has multiple interests too, at present it's the CARS dvd and he pretends he's the main character and won't answer to anything else and it's fun!! ! We have made his room and his bed like a racing car.
My ex has Aspergers and is obsessed with motor cars and it gets him into financial trouble (hence the divorce!!)

Hi there all, fellow Aussie here joining the ranks

I'm from Sydney and have been diagnosed AS. Have been going through a pretty dark periode with the way I am treated by some people. I hope connect with some like minded people here.

Tassie tassie, that's where I am. Hobart area, to be precise.
It's a wee bit of a hole, I'd prefer to move back to WA where I was born, but I've made some friends now, thank goodness! It's keeping me here, at least till the end of this year( one week away, in terms of school)

I’m not sure what stage you’re at, but if the organisation refuses to address the matter, the person with the disability can make a complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission. If the Human Rights Commission deems the complaint to be worthy of investigation, it issues a ‘please explain’ to the organisation being complained about. This can be a long process (I have heard that it can take 12 weeks).

There are free legal services set up around the country to advise you as to your complaint, to help you prepare your complaint and to provide legal support through the process.

If the complaint has not been resolved at this stage, the Commission holds a conciliation hearing with the parties. This is the last step before the case goes to the courts. Unfortunately, the Commission no longer has any power to make rulings or enforce the law in these meetings. If one party is, for example, an organisation that has considerable financial means at its disposal, it can simply play games at a hearing, with no intention of trying to resolve the issues. However, I understand that the courts look very poorly upon parties who do not approach the conciliation process in good faith.

The only other piece of advice I can give you is that you need to be prepared that the other party may say very nasty things about you. They may, for example, try to discredit you by arguing that your having Asperger’s means you are mentally unstable and worse, even if there is not a skerrick of evidence to support this.

Good luck with it. Disability discrimination is a terrible thing, and unfortunately, all too common. I’m currently beginning the court process, and am looking forward to the details of my case becoming public.

Hi Jaz, you wouldn't also happen to be from the VH forum? I'm a member there also, but rarely post.

Hello - I'm 30 and was recently diagnosed with AS. I'm definately excited to know why my life has been so dramatically different from the expectations others have forced up on me - my home right now is in Guymon, Oklahoma. AKA: No man's land! <Not kidding, that's what the people that live out here named the town park>.

Next year I'm moving to Bend, OR though =)

I'm not sure how people are undiagnosed. It's very obvious from a young age if you have it.

i suspect im high functioning, ive always been different, and recent research has revealed WAY too much in common with people who are diagnosed

i talked to my mum about it. she said that in the good ol' days people were just quirky, now they get slapped with a disorder label

so yeah, she thinks it's possible too, but as i seem to be having a pretty regular life, at this point diagnosis probably wouldnt change anything
