What is your first name? Mike

Age: 24

Location: Chicago Suburbs

Hobbies and Interests: Being outside, kids, animals, people

Why are you here? I think I'm an Aspie, so to relate with other people who might be like me

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Suspected myself about half a year ago

Favorite subjects: I like all subjects, just not homework

Year/Grade: College grad

Favorite music: Tropical

Books: Don't read books anymore - I read non-fiction self-help types, and spiritual, I still would,
but I've been giving it a rest for a while

TV shows/Movies: Malcolm in the middle, X-Files, Animal planet - but watching those nature shows and seeing animals kill each other
always starts making me feel negative about life, so I only watch it if I'm really bored, also I watch basketball

Instrument: I use software to make hip hop beats - sampling, and used to rap...but both got old to me so I hardly do it anymore..

Do you like sports? yup, basketball, football, tennis, swimming in the shallow end or against the wall : ) whatever, just being active

Family: negative day to day family life but I love 'em...I'd like to have a family one day but only with the right girl

Clothing: random t-shirts, jeans, shorts, simple...whenever I wear good looking clothes I feel uncomfortable internally,
and also because I feel like I have to be careful to not get them dirty, it's too much

How did you find this website? went searching the web for asperger's related things once I thought I may have it

Job: I don't have one, I don't want one, but I think I might have to get one

Plans for the future? I'm about to turn off a lot of women - well, at least from the information I've been given this is not an attractive thing what I'm about to say...
I have no plans for the future, I want to travel, have a good girlfriend, do the things I want to do....but because of my current life situation, which I can explain to you
later, that stuff is put off for now (except the girlfriend part I'd welcome that)..but the thing is I think I should be trying to get into the things I like now
instead of waiting.

Any comments? I'm here to talk to people who hopefully we can relate to each other...it would be a blast if I could find a girlfriend, or a girl - friend or guy friend, because I don't have any and I think it starts to suck doing things alone

What is your first name? David

Age: 26 in less than an hour's time...

Location: Oxford, England

Hobbies and Interests: Guitar, singing, the outdoors, video games, history, stonemasonry

Why are you here? Truthfully I suspected something a while ago but I just went to stay with my mum (and couldn't wait to get away to my own space and order again) and she said she thought I was and wished she'd known when I was a kid so she could have made things better for me. I couldn't work out why she was so upset about something so old that can't be changed but apparently that's a classic example, so... so I'm here to learn more, to figure things out, maybe get some advice or ideas or whatever.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): See above

Favorite subjects: History

Year/Grade: What?

Favorite music: Metal. But not screamy stuff.

Books: Pratchett and Cornwell maybe, and David Gemmell's Lion of Macedon books as well.

TV shows/Movies: The Wire, Family Guy, NCIS, Scrubs, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes...Gladiator, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, and Sharpe

Instrument: Guitar! And keyboard. And vocals.

Do you like sports? No, how dull.

Family: I have one somewhere. I have a son somewhere, which obviously means there's an ex somewhere... in fact there are several exes... and blood relatives dotted around the UK. I think I'm supposed to say I love them, and I suppose I do, inasmuch as I can, but really I feel more like I'm just fond of them.

Clothing: I like to dress well. Middle of the road, really- my dad used to say I dressed like I was 40 when I was 17, and my style hasn't changed since then. It's clean, it's functional, it looks sharp and good, it just isn't 'trendy' in the sense of the trendy kids you see in the street who you think just look absurd.

How did you find this website? went searching the web for asperger's related things once I thought I may have it- I copied this off the last guy, but it's true.

Job: I've just started a new one in a new town where no-one knows my previous social faux-pas. And I'm a manager.

Plans for the future? I live day to day really, so I don't have plans. Rather, I have ideas of what would be nice. A wife and kids, you know, a stable family. A dog. The ability to be able to conventrate on something long enough to be good at it, and then be bloody good at something.

Any comments? Sometimes I think you can't encapsulate a person in a neat little list of questions and answers and bullet points and graphs with pointy bits pointing due odd.
My only real comment is: Isn't it great we've got the internet, so we're not left isolated?

(By the way this is in place of an intro thread because I reckon I'll either get an intro thread wrong or no-one will reply and either way I'll look stupid)

All my life, people have told me I'm weird and I have never felt as though I fit in anywhere. I read the "Complete guide to Asperger's Syndrome" by Tony Attwood and that is the closest I have come to fitting into any established category.
I am contemplating the pros and cons of an official diagnosis, specifically if it would affect my professional career.

nice avatar rays_1981, i see one of your hobbies is painting, did you make it yourself?
(i'm a painter too and love seeing other people's work)

Yes, I made that one. I'll post some in the art section of the forums at some point, I don't have much of a problem showing people my creations online. It's only in person that I start to feel weird about it.

I looked at your paintings and I like them, very imaginative. What medium are they in? I am using acrylics but will eventually try oils as well.

thanks, i'd love to see a bit more of your work. your avatar looks promising :)
i mainly use acrylics, but I also do oil, I have had a watercolour period and the children drawings are often digitally modified (but not always) Maybe we can continue this conversation in the art thread when you post some of your work (curiously jumping up and down :)
:bounce: )
