What is your first name? Caleb

Age: 17 (in August which is in a month)

Location: Roseville California

Hobbies and Interests: Music, Movies, Writing, Reading, TV, Politics, History, Science and Technology

Why are you here? To chat with other Aspies and get and give advice when needed.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): When I was 11 in 6th grade

Favorite subjects: English, and History classes mainly

Year/Grade: 12

Favorite music: I like a bit of everything but my favorite artist/bands (in no particular order) are probably No Doubt (as well as Gwen Stefani's solo work), Emilie Autumn, The Cranberries, Neil Diamond, Nightwish, Lola Ray, Michael Jackson, Queen, The Darkness (as well as everything else Justin Hawkins is apart of), System of a Down, Senses Fail, My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Britney Spears, Eminem, id Obelus, Lady Gaga, Vanilla Ninja, Johnny Cash and loads of other stuff as I like really pretty much everything.

Books: I read alot but my favorite books are probably Let The Right One In, The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Series, Anything by Phillip K. Dick, the His Dark Materials trilogy, and the Pendragon series

TV shows/Movies: This is really hard... Hm my favorite filmmaker ever is Stantley Kubrick for one. I am very picky about film as I am very much an Art Critic and a perfectionist. I hate most popular things because usually the main reason they are popular is because they are made so stupid people can understand/comprehend them (like the Twilight series for example) and TV is a mixed bag as well... I like sitcoms and a variety of Sci-Fi series... I love everything Joss Whedon has done (except for Dollhouse... I mean I liked it but wasn't obsessed with it like his other stuff). I can't really express my immense interest in Film in one post...

Instrument: I love hearing Drums, Bass and Guitar. And I am actually teaching myself all 3 which is hard because of my lack of coordination but am doing good so far.

Do you like sports? I like Soccer as I used to play as a kid and learned all the rules but other than that no because 1. It is boring or 2. I don't care enough to learn the rules

Family: I live with my Grandparents who are more of parents than my real parents are. I was abused by my real parents as a child and moved in with my Grandparents in 6th grade shortly after I was diagnosed. My parents are still my legal guardians so I still see them but I live with my Grandparents. I have a 12 year old brother who is pretty cool and a gamer yet really selfish and isn't intelligent enough to think for himself and only likes what is popular and I have a sister who is 15 and she is your typical teenage girl and is not a very nice person at all but I think alot of it is suppressed emotion over all the things that have happened with me and my family in her life and the fact that she feels unwanted and unappreciated (I have Aspergers and my brother has a heart defect so most of our childhood was my parents focusing on us rather than her) so she tries to get negative attention as she feels it is better than none at all.

Clothing: I like wearing "nerdy" clothing such as shirts with sci-fi characters (or movies in general I like), shirts with comic characters, internet references, movie quotes, quotes or things that bash popular culture or shirts with bands/artists I like

How did you find this website? Searching for a forum I can talk to people with Aspergers on

Job: I had a job at a local Waterpark which didn't last long and am trying to get a job at my local comics store or Best Buy

Plans for the future? Become a Criminal Psychologist with a side interest in directing and acting in Independent Film. Maybe branch out into Law and become a Defense Attorney and go into Politics as well maybe.

Any comments? Not really.

First Name: Not telling yet.

Age: 25

Location: Colorado right now. I've been traveling with the Renaissance Faire.

Hobbies and Interests: faerie lore, playing with my rat, reading, computer games, Legend of Zelda

Why I'm Here: to learn more about myself and others. My doctor said she thought I have Asperger's.

Diagnosed: Last year?

Favorite Subjects: Anthropology (I majored in it), hard sciences (especially biology), Medieval Arthurian Literature

Year/Grade: BA in Anthropology and Intercultural Studies with a minor in Bible

Favorite Music: anything with good lyrics, as long as the singer isn't whiney

Books: science fiction, fantasy, Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan, Mercedes Lackey, Lois McMaster Bujold, Anne McCaffery...so many books, so little time...

TV Shows/Movies: Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, SG1, 10th Kingdom, any thought-provoking anime, Galaxy Quest, Star Trek

Instrument: harp (but I can't get my hands to work with each other very well yet)

Like Sports: I don't like team sports. Fencing and martial arts are fun, though.

Family: Mom, dad (divorced), two brothers. All quirky, but no diagnoses...

Clothing: goth sometimes (don't shoot! =P), anything comfortable without being too frumpy, lots of long skirts

How I Found the Site: Google searching Asperger's

Job: working at the Renaissance Faire, but possibly looking for something more settled

Future Plans: um...

Comments: I want to make a difference in the world. When I was younger, I thought that was what I was made for - that some grand adventure would come sweep me away. Now I don't know what I'm doing with my life...

My first name is Lori.

I am 48 years old.

I live in Denton County, Texas.

My hobbies are exercising, cooking, crocheting like an old lady, some video games, gardening, taking care of my rescue cats (8 currently), and reading non-fiction. I love TV, of course.

I am here because I would like to reach out to others aspies who are younger, if only to tell them, it really does get better as you get older, but only if you're willing to do the work to get there.

I wasn't diagnosed until 2008.

My favorite subjects are anything in the sciences (anything from anthropology to zoology and everything in between), plants and animals, politics and conspiracy theories.

I graduated college with a BA in psychology in 1991, when I was 29 years old.

My favorite music? There is too much great music out there to pick one. I love classical, I love country, I love rock, I love techno....I pick music to match my mood, and sometimes to lift it.

I typically read only non-fiction, but the last fiction book I read that I really liked was "Swan Song" by Robert McKammon (I enjoy apocalyptic stuff).

I enjoy a lot of the science shows on TV. I also laugh every night when I watch Adult Swim programming. God, I love cartoons.

I enjoy a good movie, especially science fiction or historical. I have a special fondness for the Three Stooges (Yeah, I know, very unladylike, but they make me laugh).

I used to play the piano, but I have rheumatoid arthritis and some pieces hurt to play them, so I had to stop.

I'm not big on sports but I really love watching bull riding. Yee haw!

My family and I are not close. My father died 15 years ago. I have issues with my mother...I know I should call her more, but I really hate hanging on the phone making small talk. My siblings are crazier than me :-)

Clothing always has to be comfy, with no itchy fabric or scratchy tags. I have some lovely outfits, but if it were up to me, I'd wear nothing but an oversized T-shirt every day.

I found this website by Googling "why do I always say the wrong thing", believe it or not.

My husband and I are currently "retired". He day trades stocks during the day, I get to hang out and pursue many of my interests du jour.

What is your first name? Mark G.

Age: 28

Location: Atlanta, GA

Hobbies and Interests: Watching Rugby Union, yoga, weed, writing, music, CNC machines, heirloom technology, sociological studies, cooking, farming, DIY-life, ranting, comedy and just living the dream. :D

Why are you here? To find support for my adult Aspergers, to stimulate discussion on moving the treatment of Asperger's forward amongst minorities and to change the perception overall of what an out of tune mind MIGHT constitute.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Selfed in '09

Favorite subjects: Math, History, Social Studies

Year/Grade: Graduated High School w/ 1 year of College

Favorite music: Much too diverse to be mentioned here. I DO dislike most modern pop and country, though.

Books: Again, far too many to list here. But I'm quite fond of good Fanfiction, if that means anything. I also love a good cookbook.

TV shows/Movies: Cooking shows, documentaries, the odd drama here and there. Oh and a LOT of sports, particularly Rugby Union from the other side of the world. I am a Rugby addict.

Instrument: None.

Do you like sports? All sports but I'm particularly fond of Rugby Union. More a fan than a player due to my family history but want to change that.

Family: Divorced parents since 1982, one step-sister and step-brother. And a half-sister from a previous marriage from my father.

Clothing: Trying to figure that one out. I recently lost a lot of weight over a period of years and in that process I shed over 8 inches off my waist alone. I want to look like a modern steampunk dandy but that's a bit of a stretch...

How did you find this website? Googling while trying to find adult support groups.

Job: Busboy for now but trained as a line cook.

Plans for the future? Becoming truly financially independent, having more women in my life and living in my religion to the best of my abilities.

Any comments? I just wish a resource like this existed when my Grandmother was my age. She was an Aspie LONG before the condition existed, let alone was codified into a disorder. With that said, I really want to talk honestly here but with a hope that even though I'm Black in America, I'm still a human with these issues we ALL go through. For me, this isn't just about socializing with the world at large, it's socializing with my own people who think that my issues are different than what they really are in the first place.

What is your first name? Liam

Age: 21

Location: Washington

Hobbies and Interests: writing, singing, rugby, backpacking, swimming, politics

Why are you here? To learn more and gain support

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): self diagnosed fairly recently; haven't sought a formal diagnosis yet (the last time I tried to see a mental health specialist, she told me to leave because I wasn't talking except in direct answer to her questions...)

Favorite subjects: gender studies, sociology, politics

Year/Grade: Senior year in college

Favorite music: Bob Dylan, Chris Pureka, Coyote Grace, Damien Rice, Guster, Indigo Girls, Jason Mraz, Le Tigre, The Lost Bois, Nada Surf, The Senate

Books: I'm currently really into gender theory and queer theory, but I'll read just about anything. Some favorites include A Room of One's Own, Bastard Out of Carolina, Beloved, The Handmaid's Tale, Invisible Man, Ishmael, Silent Spring, Stone Butch Blues, To Kill a Mockingbird, Whipping Girl, 1984.

TV shows/Movies: I don't currently have a TV, which precludes me from watching much. As far as movies, I don't really have any favorites. I'm mostly pretty ambivalent about movies.

Instrument: I don't play any, though I want to learn to play the guitar.

Do you like sports? I like playing sports but not watching them. I particularly like rugby and swimming.

Family: I have two parents and a twin brother.

Clothing: Meh. Whatever's comfortable. Mostly shorts/jeans and t-shirts.

How did you find this website? I saw it referenced in a LiveJournal group.

Job: I'm a student, and during the school year I work as the GLBTQ student intern, planning events and meetings for the GLBTQ group on campus. Right now I have a summer job working as a research assistant, mostly transcribing interviews and doing whatever other random things that need to be done.

Plans for the future? I plan to go to grad school, after which I hope to do social justice work, ideally doing antipoverty work within queer and trans communities.

How did you find this website? My computer's ethernet connection ;)

Job: None

Plans for the future? Dunno.

Comments? Yes, three.

Comment #1: "Do you like video games? If so, which one(s)?" should be one of the questions. "Clothing:" should be removed.

Comment #2: I absolutely LOVE playing video games. I am a hard-core gamer for sure! I can beat anyone at any video game (that I have played).

Comment #3: I wrote this post on my Amazon Kindle 2 (an advanced e-reader), so I don't know if this post got sent through in one piece. Sometimes, my Kindle will insert a strange symbol at the end of a post or comment that I write. I used a program to decode this odd symbol. The symbol is 00010000 in binary.

Just an interesting fact: This is post #2925259.

i find coming to terms with who you are isn't as much scary as disappointing. the most memorable lesson i can remember from my psychology class is when my professor discussed whether or not the entirety of psychological analysis was a pseudoscience. he said the only way to prove that it is real is the example of pavlov's dog. i dodged a diagnoses that trimester but at least i got a B+! btw your puppies are cute, i have a big adorable long-haired retriever named charlie. btw i like chuck palenuck too especially choke

and i think freud had a serious coke problem. some of his more demeaning works, such as the implications of his 5 stages of psychosexual development are just a itsy-bit too far off the wall for my liking. seriously that guy was ****ing crazy. thank god i never had to see a therapist im just not sure i could put up with that kind of sillytalk.
