Why are you here? I have a 12-year old son who was dx with AS, and I think I may have it also.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Matty was diagnosed in Feb. 2008
Favorite subjects: Gosh, can't remember what my fave subjects were in school, I just remember being an overachiever.
Year/Grade: Went to college, had a great GPA, but I got bored... thinking maybe to finally get my bachelor's soon.

Books: The Holy Bible, love horrors, thrillers and true crime novels, but honestly, I will read just about anything... including the back of a cereal box! LOL

I want my son to be happy, and I want to be happy, too. I hope that my connections here help me find that happiness that we both so desperately want and need.

What is your first name? real names I never give on-line sorry, Surya will have to do.
Age: hmm chronological or subjective? Somewhere between mid 20s and early 40s I figure.
Location: For now here in Canada, hopefully soon The UK!! !
Hobbies and Interests: Long time ago I took up knitting when I quit smoking so my hands had something to do, but started to smoke again and gave up knitting. Other then that, films, reading, net, some vid games. But the one that has been with me the longest, trying to understand why humans do and say the things they do - which leads to many sub-interest.
Why are you here? Knowledge - I am tired of trying to fit into their boxes and moulds and failing miserably at it. Maybe here I will gain the knowledge to understand why I cannot do it. It really is exhausting.
When were you diagnosed? Have not been, don't know if I will be - but playing back the films in my mind.. I have to wonder if I am seeing a memory correctly.
Favorite subjects: Anything that is logical or can be solved with logic
Year/Grade: If the future goes well for me, Sept I will be entering 1st year uni
Favorite music: Love music -have no favourite
Books: I will read anything I can get my hands on - with one or two exceptions NO Romance or ...hmm ok maybe only 1 exception, but will leave it as two, in the event something comes up.
TV shows/Movies: Easier to say what I don't like - Romance and select comedy, I say select because I love Red Dwarf
Instrument: Don't play anything - I guess closest would be my pc, but that is not what you the questionnaire writer meant, oh well.
Do you like sports? No
Family: None, just me since I was dropped off - stupid stork. No children, and never will be any and very single and being completely realistic, will probably always will be, but I have no crystal ball so who knows.
Clothing: I hate the stuff, who ever had the idea that it would be a good idea to wear it all the time was so wrong. Then to basically make it mandatory, well that just is not right.
How did you find this website? Beats me.. maybe Google, maybe a link off a site from Google, or maybe a link off a site, off a link.. repeat. Seriously, I have an addiction and need help, if knowledge and browsing can be called an addiction. But, to give an idea how bad it can be - only time my browser ever crashes is when it is running at around 950,000 K
Job: Not working.. hopefully leaving country soon and employers have an aversion to hiring people for that short of a time period - plus I just got out of school.
Plans for the future? Another subjective question.. umm I have applied and been accepted into uni in the UK.
Any comments? Plenty, but I think I have said enough in this questionnaire, but thanks for asking.

Josh
Age:
25

Austin, Tx
Hobbies and Interests:
Reading, video games
Why are you here?
My first response is "I have no idea," but I would imagine that it would have to be to experience some communication with others (either with or dealing with) AS to get a better idea of whether or not I have it, and, if so, on what level.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
I was not diagnosed. Due to the extreme proclivity to self diagnose in non-children, I am severely disinclined to say I have AS. However, a recently acquired acquaintance is interested in psychological pathology as an area of study in college and SHE thinks that I have AS. While it would make sense and explain a lot, if I do have AS, I can't feel comfortable giving myself even a tentative\preliminary diagnosis as for every one of the "generic, cookie-cutter" points of diagnosis (on Wikipedia, for example) that I meet 1000%, there is at least one (or, in some cases, two) points that have never been an issue in my life. ie, I didn't start talking when most people do, but when I did, I've always been a very eloquent speaker/writer even at a young age.
Favorite subjects:
Mathematics and Linguistic-related studies
Year/Grade:
Graduated High School, Some College, currently Employed
Favorite music:
Punk rock, hip hop, video game music, frank zappa, etc
Books:
Snow Crash, The House of Leaves, Only Revolutions, The HP Lovecraft Compendium
TV shows/Movies:
Family Guy, Anime in general, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, The Venture Bros, The Brak Show
Instrument:
I do not play music; great aficionado of music, but, when it comes to playing, I'm musically-deficient
Do you like sports?
no
Family:
I have them. I'm closest to my mother, but I have always felt 'outside' and only attached by default
Clothing:
I wear clothing. I only take a shower about 3 times a week, so, I'm very much like a sitcom character whom never changes his clothes
How did you find this website?
Doing research on AS with Wikipedia as a starting point
Job:
Quality Assurance / Lead Notebook Technician
Plans for the future?
I lack ambition. I've been existing my entire life. I have no real desires; they're usually just 'in the moment' and fleeting desires that, without immediate 'work' being done to achieve this phantom 'goal,' it will go away and I will just be as equally unhappy and hateful as always. I would LOVE to be able to be happy, but I'm not exactly (or, truth be told, even remotely) sure how to go about that.
What is your first name? Andrew
Age: 19
Location: Iselin, NJ
Hobbies and Interests: meteorology, WCBS-FM 101.1, New Jersey (eventually Brooklyn) Nets, New Jersey Devils, Miami Dolphins,
Why are you here? After finding this site by chance (see below), I decided I wanted to join as part of learning more about AS and perhaps support other people as they support me.
When were you diagnosed? (skip if you don't have a disorder): I've only personally known since January 2010. I was able to get an official diagnosis in May 2010.
Favorite subjects: meteorology, sociology, current events, history, English
Year/Grade: 2nd year of college (starting September 2010)
Favorite music: 95% of the music I listen to is older than me. I don't particularly care for today's music. Chances are if WCBS-FM 101.1 plays it, I like it. Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, lots of Motown, Elvis, "Weird Al" Yankovic, John Gorka
This also ties into music history and facts.
Books: the Bible, the works of Kevin Trudeau, The Trial & The Castle (both by Franz Kafka), The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, (when I was younger: Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo, The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini), Dante's Divine Comedy
TV shows/Movies: TV: I'm bummed Heroes is cancelled, Parenthood (I started watching b/c of Max), Survivor, Smallville, White Collar, Psych, Mythbusters, Food Network, America's Got Talent (auditions, maybe later rounds), I wish Monk didn't end (but the ending was great), Glenn Beck, The O'Reilly Factor, Hannity, On The Record w/ Greta Van Susteren, Seinfeld reruns,
Instrument: 4th grade = trumpet, 5th-9th = clarinet
Do you like sports? I watch them more than play them. In high school, I ran on the cross country team and wound up with a varsity letter.
Family: mom, dad, 3 brothers, 1 puppy (just turned 1; German short-haired pointer/boxer mix)
Clothing: A lot of the shirts I wind up with are patriotic, which I don't mind at all. Some are solid colors and most I don't see other people wearing. Most of the time, I'm in jeans and sneakers; but dressing up for something important doesn't bother me.
How did you find this website? I haven't told many people about my diagnosis but I've been contemplating it. I searched for "revealing aspgerger's" in Google and this forum came up because someone wanted feedback about telling all his Facebook friends.
Job: Ordinarily, I might have said "full time student", but I recently started my first actual job as a maintenance worker at my church. It's for the summer and will help me pay for books for the Fall.
Plans for the future? Associate's Degree in Chemistry, Bachelor's and (maybe) Masters in Meteorology, keeping on top of the weather but getting paid for it, I hope I know more about how to work around/with my AS, hopefully meeting Mrs. Right and starting a family, continuing work for a better America (my part)
Any comments?

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): self diagnosed fairly recently; haven't sought a formal diagnosis yet (the last time I tried to see a mental health specialist, she told me to leave because I wasn't talking except in direct answer to her questions...) Does Comprehend Disability count...?

Why are you here? Learn more about AS and to find support.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): MIS-diagnosed for 30 years with a variety of things...such as a general learning disability, depression, OCD and schizophrenia. Ugh. Too many meds and irritating conversations with therapists over the years.
Favorite subjects: Political Science, Drawing, Art History, Critical Theory, & reading in general
Year/Grade: I have a Master's Degree from PENN
Favorite music: Minimalism
Books: Used books. Was a tad bit obsessed with Quixotic literature for a couple years. I read and researched the linage of influence dating back to Rabelais and other humanist writers from the Northern Renaissance. Then the political & philosophical implications of scatology. Interesting reading but it is not suited for dinner conversation...or conversation in general. What I read has a great deal of structured research.
TV shows/Movies: I can not watch television. I do watch films. LOAD of films. Trying to cut back because it interferes with my research and other interests.
Instrument: Banjo
Do you like sports? not really.
Family: Yeah, I have one. We are not really close but I don't feel close to anyone.
Clothing: Denim, Jacket, & Sneakers.

Job: Under-Employed. I am a freelance documentary photographer. I was a college lecturer for several years.
Plans for the future? One day at a time. I have trouble making long term plans for myself. I wrestle with demons on a daily if not HOURLY basis. Some days are better than others.
Any comments?

Year/Grade: College Freshman, I suppose.
Favorite music: Smashing Pumpkins, Dead Can Dance, The Who.
Books: Thinking In Pictures by Temple Grandin; Alien Agenda by Jim Marrs; The Cricket In Times Square by Garth Williams
TV shows/Movies: Simpsons, Roseann, The X Files, My So-Called Life.
Instrument: Electric Bass.
Do you like sports? God, no.

Clothing: Flannel, plaid, jeans, dresses. Sweatshirts.
How did you find this website? Fantastic.
Job: Childcare.
Plans for the future? To be happy.
Any comments? The things I want in life are so simple, yet I have to work so much harder to achieve them. Life may not be fair, but I really don't ask for much. I just want to be like everybody else.
