Hi 687, how far west are you? Far far west is my favourite part of Vic, I dream of living/retiring somewhere near Portland one day.

i suspect im high functioning, ive always been different, and recent research has revealed WAY too much in common with people who are diagnosed

i talked to my mum about it. she said that in the good ol' days people were just quirky, now they get slapped with a disorder label

so yeah, she thinks it's possible too, but as i seem to be having a pretty regular life, at this point diagnosis probably wouldnt change anything

My mother went through a similar rant at one point, acting annoyed that people attempt to slap labels on weird children.

I've apparently been tested for autism when I was younger, but I suspect I've got a mild form of AS (although I'm not sure if I can be bothered seeking a diagnosis.)

As for the thread, living near Canberra, Australia.

Well I have alot of autism in my family. I'm the smartest of the lot and have above average IQ. When I was at school I was always A+ with Science and Maths and B with english. My sister is labeled with Autsitic spectrum disorder. Shes 21 and about as mature as a 12 year old. She is bad at maths but is obsessed with reading books.
I use to talk weird but i had so much speech therapy i sound normal now. I have a 16 year old cousin, that talks slow i guess you would say and isn't very smart. Then i have a 11yearr old cousin that talks fine but doesn't get what other people say to him and is strugglin with school grades because of the misunderstanding and attention spam.
It all comes from my grandpa. It skipped my dads generation and hit us. My grandpa is really weaird and annoying.
Im a good friend and get on best with girls since i got a sister if anyone interested in chatting online :)

hey yeah i think my mum is a bit upset that i think there's something "wrong" with me, when she thinks im the "most normal of all us"

isnt that proof enough?

she also worked with people with disability, kids and adults, and kids with AS and autism and is pretty insulted that i think i could be AS because if i was dont you think she would have noticed by now?

Hi everyone,

Im a french male 28 yo visiting Australia on a WHV, currently in Melbourne. I should stay in the land down under as long as my visa is running, which means until 31 october 2011.

Im having a hard time making pals and really connecting to people, my only friend could not follow me as he still have to finish his studies.

So far, im enjoying the country very very much, it is as great as i imagined... though i feel alone and begin to be bored, because of my poor social skills.

See you later blokes and sheilas.

Hello everyone!
I will be visiting Australia,Brisbane, next month during the holidays and I will stay for litte bit less than a month.
Do you know where I can buy the book '' Complete guide to Aspergers syndrome'' by Tonny Attwood?
Should I search book stores or order online?
Do you know how long it takes from order to delivery?
Do you know any place where I can go to ask for a second opinion about diagnosis?
I found out that dr. Tony Attwood has a clinic but I heard they are very busy and it is not easy to get an appointment. Any other clinic,center..that works with kids with AS?
Thank you,Mia

Hi Mia,

I obtained my copy of the book from an online bookstore called "Resources at Hand". It was delivered the next day.

The Minds & Hearts clinic in Brisbane (West End) is excellent. Any of the Doctors or clinicians there are specialists in the field and will be of immense help, or at least I found it to be so. If you are in town for a month and book now, you should be able to get an appointment to see someone within that timeframe. It's worth a go!

EDIT:
I am based in Rockhampton.
