It's called a "play bow", Nan. The same posture can be observed among young wolves in the wild - when we bred them into dogs, we apparently kept the cub's nature continuing into adulthood (which is not necessarily a bad thing - when was the last time you had to challenge your dog for dominance?)

When you really really have to set the pecking order striaght, the alpha roll. Same thing they do.

Another referee to the FAQ. There are two "Profile Update" pages, the standard one accepts 256 characters, the other 160. If your sig is > 160, and you use the second one (which uploads an avatar or changes the "custom rank", you need to temporarily cut&paste your sig, update with no sig (say), then use the other (normal) profile page to put the sig back. Tedious.

PS. Nan's sig?

thank you for your information on how to handle the social snub

I suppose I am more Aspie than I thought, because this morning, I could care less. I mean - why would I want to associate with people like that anyway?

I think the AA people have it right "We are not people who would normally socially mix". And that is work, anyone's work, actually.

If you can't join 'em, plot other fates for 'em!

Má shiúlaim ó na laethe beo
An ghrian 's an ghealach ar mo chúl [2]
Níl uaim ach smaointe ó mo shaoil

the #2 citation: in gaelic, one does not say, for example, that they are "happy" or "hungry" or such. they say that "the happy is on/upon them" [they bear/carry the happy] or "the hunger is on/upon them". [they bear/carry the hunger]. thus, in this case, it says that the moon and sun [ghrian = sun and gealach=moon] are on the speaker's back. more loosely translated, when the sun and moon become a burden. when days and nights are a burden. thus, the quote

If I walk from the alive days
The sun and the moon behind me [2]
I'll only need thoughts from my life

can be translated as

if/as i die
when the days are [life is] a burden
my memories will suffice/be enough.

~~~~~~~~~
thanks a lot, guys. :(
just amazing.
Whoa! I'm very sorry Nan! I take full responsibility for this one. Lau provided the translation to the right of the words. I highlighted the included definition of certain phrases at the bottom. I was trying to be a wise guy. Went way over the top. Would never hurt you intentionally, but did, and I apologize. Lau was completely innocent.
I truly do not feel that way about you at all, and admit I was way off base.
I offer my sincerest apologies.
Chuck
I'e been away for a few days and before that I was 'lurking'. Do you know how long it takes to read through 30 pages to catch up?
How is everybody? I feel a little uneasy as I read through the pages. I hope everybody is feeling relaxed and at peace. Perhaps it is the end of summer for most of the cafe set and everybody is out of sorts.
Merle. I'll bash your workmates up, if you like...though I don't think I'd do much damage. I hated social functions too, and didn't drink with my collegues on a Friday afternoon. Didn't really want to be in the 'in' crowd...not really.
Hooray for Hartzofspace!! !! !! !! !
You are a valued member of this world, Cosmiccat. And your quilts etc are wonderful.
Nan and Blessed Mom. you really need to kerb your wild ways. Leave the boys aone!
Boys, you all seem well. Postie with his ink blot tests, coool Deacon Blue, the frenzied Chuck and the logical Lau.
I bet I've missed someone else, Quatermass.
I have had a very nostalgic time tracing back over old territory. Jim and I went to Condamine where we visited the school where we met nearly 40 years ago.
Will post more tomorrow.
