Nan's back!
Decided to just run as far as I could, then walk back. On the way back I saw hundreds of easter tiger swallowtails.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_tiger_swallowtail A bunch of buzzards circled me as well. Shoo! Off with you. No one made the "Bring out your dead!" call. I'm not dead yet!! ! I'm feeling much better, really!! !
whatzamatter with my back? what's this sudden fascination with my back, anyway?
pretty butterflies.
change antiperspirant or aftershave? look for the fine print on the label and make sure it doesn't say "caution: may attract scavengers" or anything.
it was 106F in the shade on our second-floor balcony yesterday by 2pm, reporteth the kid. it's already in the 90s and it's only like 10:00am. fortunately, our elderly a/c unit in the livingroom wall is wheezing away still, so we'll be out there most of the day where it's cool. we slept out there on the floor last night, too. it was too hot to stay in the back part of the house where the bedrooms (and the computer) are.
might grab a pizza to bring home (no way i'm heating up the kitchen today) after we go over to the library in a bit to get some new books. need some new reading material since i won't be computering for many of the hours in this long weekend. have finished the one i grabbed last time ("Food in the Ancient World" by Wilkins and Hill - don't know why, it was there on the shelf by the checkout, so....) while waiting for the kid to pick up her knitting books. she got a book out of the library right after her seizure/hospital thing and decided to learn to knit. she finished, except for the zipper, an aran-islands type knotwork sweater, with a hood on it, last night and now needs a new project. it really came out well - especially for a first try. i can't knit - the yarn just knots up and wads up and any sweater i made would be suitable for quazimoto. but the kid has the talent. she's an artist.
we have a nice, decent little library not far away. well stocked, with a more esoteric collection than the generic stuff you usually find in a public library. they've got a really good history section. before the food book i read one on the edwardians. might go that route - see what else they have. only sad thing is that they've had to cut the hours at the libraries back so much. we got there a couple of weeks ago to drop off some overdue stuff only to find a couple of kids sitting forlornly out on the steps waiting for a ride home - place closed earlier than it used to and they didn't get their research projects done. hope it's open by the time the kid wakes up today.
ya'll have fun.
