What is your first name? Barbara

Age: 49

Location: Emerald City, Oz (Sydney, Australia)

Hobbies and Interests: my son, words (etymology), making things, physiology, biochemistry, some other stuff, I'm sure.

Why are you here? I've got to get out into the world, and this looks like a good place to start.

When were you diagnosed?: Formally, a few weeks ago. Umm, it's more of a difference that causes me difficulties than it is a disorder. And there are far too many positive attributes - far more than there are negative ones, I think - unless I've become so habituated to the effects of the negative ones that I'm no longer aware of them,, which would be the same thing anyway.

Favorite conversational subjects: The human body and it's workings.

Favorite music: Bach's Preludes for Cello, the Eels, T Rex,

Books: Nowadays I almost exclusively read non-fiction, but I used to love Sci-Fi when I was young, and Science Fantasy. Jack Vance's Dying Earth and Demon Princes. I love poetry.

Movies: Most things by the Coen bros, Jim Jarmusch, some Clint Eastwood

Instrument: Fragments of piano and guitar

Do you like sports? No

Family: Husband and son, neither particularly NT. Two sisters and two brothers, three of whom are clearly AS, 'though traits displayed differ. Both parents dead, miss my Dad every day, and relieved to realise my severely Aspie Mother didn't really reject me.

Clothing: Yep

How did you find this website? Googled Aspie Forum

Job: That would be nice. Yes, please.

Plans for the future? I'm considering options. A bit frozen by the requirements of motherhood, and the percieved necessity to fit in. I can present a normal front by staying almost entirely immobile, but of course I can't DO anything in that state.

Any comments? Hello.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Not yet - DH is still convinced DS just needs to grow up. We've only talked about it twice so far so please don't think poorly of DH. He just doesn't want DS "labeled" by ignorant people. Heck, where we live 1st cousins are known to marry so ignorance is in abundance.

Year/Grade: I graduated in '89

Favorite music: all

Books: I enjoy Anne Rice - her writing style makes it so that if I have to lay the book down for a few days its easy to pick up where I left off.

TV shows/Movies: None - a battle thats just not worth having

Family: 3 boys, hubby and self

Clothing: comfortable and low maintenance

What is your first name? Teri

Age: 25

Location: Houston, TX

Hobbies and Interests: reading... I'm a BIG reader, I tend to like fiction, because the "rules" of the worlds tend to be very clearly lined out, and the authors don't tend to break those rules, so things make more sense to me... I also play video games, my husband and I are huge gaming nerds  , I used to crochet more before my hands got worse, I don't think I could do it for more than a few minutes at a time now, which bothers me

Why are you here? to learn, to communicate with others like me

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): undiagnosed, and avoiding more doctors like the plague

Favorite subjects: science, anatomy, biology, I'm a nursing student, so I think my interests are clearly in line

Year/Grade: I'm in college, after many years hiatus, I think I would be classified as a third year freshman since I've only JUST declared my studies, but I have some classes under my belt...

Favorite music: instrumental, as long as its calming, I don't like frenetic music... alternative rock is ok but it depends on the song, I can't listen to rap, or hard rock... I get too anxious, indie music is ok, country is typically ok... my favorite stuff to listen to has to be Guitar music ie: Otmar Leibert!

Books: I'm into paranormal fiction, science fiction, the rules of the world has to be clearly defined, and I'm good. Its really annoying when a specific genre has a set rule book so to speak about how the world the author is writing about is supposed to work, and they break the rules because they want their world to be "unique"

TV shows/Movies: again science fiction seems to dominate most of my viewing pleasures... nerd shows, I don't "get" shows like sex and the city, or gossip girl...

Instrument: trumpet, french horn, bass guitar

Do you like sports? not really... I can watch somethings if I have to...

Family: I am married and I have a beautiful baby girl (16 months), I have a mom, and a dad, a younger brother, and quite a bit of extended family.

Clothing: I try to wear what is comfortable, I TRY to keep up with fashions, somewhat, just so I don't stick out like a sore thumb any more than I already do, but I don't always manage it too well, and seem to be unable to pull the fashions off, or they are uncomfortable... I tend to wear the same things over and over again, so they tend to get worn out fairly quickly... I don't like scratchy fabric, or slinky fabric, so cotton clothes are my favorites, I don't like tags, so the new "tagless" clothes are pretty cool as far as I'm concerned, otherwise I cut out the tags of my clothes because they bother me...

How did you find this website? through facebook actually, a bunch of my facebook friends were passing around the Autism Spectrum Quotient test, I took it, and got fairly high on it, started doing obsessive research, found a few other tests, and eventually found this site

Job: Student and Stay at home Mom, but I'm looking for a part time job to help bring in some more money for the family.

Plans for the future? I would like to eventually get my Doctorate in Nursing, and become a Nurse Midwife with Lactation Consultant Certification. I've become really obsessed with natural options when it comes to pregnancy, and parenting, since having my own child.

Any comments? just hope that I can learn something from you guys!
