The Dino-Aspie Ex-Café (for Those 40+... or feeling creaky)

Do you have any tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil? If you do, put a few drops in a kettle or pot and have her breath in the vapors for 20 minutes. She can also just breathe in the vapors from the tea tree oil right from the bottle since it is so hot.
nope, and unfortunately she's allergic to eucalyptus. i've had her using a saline wash, and that's helped some. gave her one of my prescription "openthedam" decongestants this morning (hence our wheeeeeee adventure in ikea). it opened things up enough that she got heavy green gunk out of that sinus, but i think the infection's spreading around up there. if she's not better in the morning, i'll run her over to urgent care early. it's so hot it's dangerous to take her outside, really, in the daytime.
i gave her the option of doing a steam treatment earlier and she looked at me like i'd lost my mind - understandable, really, since she's having to lay on the floor in the livingroom directly under the a/c vent just to stay cool. so i think right now it's just more decongestants, more saline washes, and some tylenol. unless someone knows something better to do.
says she's not hungry, and her throat is hideously red and raw. i was going to get her some mexican food - that always opens sinuses up, but with her throat looking like that i don't believe we'll go that route. maybe pop down and get some eggdrop soup or something at the chinese place. i think spicy soup - something with a lot of onions and garlic - would be better to open things up, but am not sure her throat can take that now. am pouring gingerale into her at a good rate, so she's staying hydrated.
i love three day weekends. last one we spent in the e.r. and the hospital. the one before that we spent in urgent care when her shoulder started seizing up and hurt so bad she was crying. i think the three-day-holiday before that was the "ate a bad burrito" weekend.
am going to petition work to stop having three-day weekend holidays....
If she has green goo and a really bad throat, there isn't much I can tell you except take her to the clinic, because she needs an antibiotic. Anything with garlic will be good but I don't think at this point it will help.
As for the hydration, does she drink Gatorade or Powerade at all. I have to keep it on hand because I dehydrate at the drop of a hat. A specialist in Calgary told me to drink it whenever I am at risk of losing fluid (ie. heat, stomach flu, drinking wine ) I am missing my large intestine and part of my small intestines so I don't absorb water properly. The Gatorade works very quickly. I'm not crazy about the sugar but it works. And it won't hurt your kidneys if you need it, as in the kids case.
Well, I finally found you, BlessedMom!
(If you're still here, that is.)
I've been off trying to write some for my blog, making some greetings for newbies, exchanging emails with a couple of people who aren't quite as crazy as I am, and then I come into visit and only have a few pages to review.
This place seems like it's been very quiet all day.
What's happening?
Nan, do you know?
"me" time? Don't know anything about "me" time. Do you mean Maine Time? That's Eastern Time, I think.
As to yesterday. Whew! I never would have believed that such a bunch of antiques could have such antics.
I still don't know how I'm going to forgive Nannarob.
I'm Justin Shorts all day, because my pants are still drying from last night's little accident that she caused.
I do know about down time. Have experienced that a lot. But yesterday really felt like the first cyber-social event in which I had a clue as to what was going on. I thought the riot police from WP Admin were going to burst in any second and lock the bunch of us up.
Have you noticed my location below my avatar? Sofa, recovering . . .
I'm having great difficulty typing today.

As for being lost. Don't know about you, but don't look for me. You'll never find me because I'm REALLY lost! Like totally!
LORDY! that took forever for me to review and remove the typos. So I decided I better check my last greeting message to a newbie and discovered I had stated I hoped he would get "goof information" here at WP! Luckily I corrected it before anybody caught me and quoted me.
Geesh! I am so totally out of it. (How many edits can you do on one posting?)
I think I need some Maine Time.
Sure do.

Can you arrange for the temperature to drop, oh, say, about 40 degrees now?

The Kid's sniffles seem to have developed into a full-blown summer cold/sinus infection misery. Cold weather would be a lovely thing, now... she's all snurfly and miserable, running a fever.

Tea Tree oil is nothing short of a miracle! I have a CPAP machine I don't clean as regularly as I should and get sinusitus. . and tea tree oil knocks it for a loop. . .also I had a budding tooth infection thingy. . bam. .three drops and the swelling went down and that knocked the pain out.
Inhailing the steam with Tea Tree oil is a good way to get it into the lungs and the bloodstream. Great Idea!!
(hey, kid. . you smelling the tea tree oil, like I told ya??)

you know, mom, the irony is that the kid was at the doctors' for a full/complete/pee-in-a-cup well-checkup on friday. this all started on friday night. it so figures. yeah, if it's not markedly improved by tomorrow morning, off we'll go to urgent care. if it's improved, we'll just watch it. they are not really into giving out antibiotics much anymore, unless we've already given time a chance to work with the immune system. they say that antibiotics have been overused and thus there are a lot of immune bugs out there. so, they'll want for her to have fought it for at least several days before showing up over there with our hands out for a prescription. and she has a really weird immune system - it's usually in hyperdrive and we deal with that end of things.
la kid put away a considerable amount of green bean chicken and orange chicken and chow mein for supper for someone who was on death's door. she's almost as bad as a guy that way, you know? gets the "i'm sick and helpless and ooooooh, it's baaaad" thing and gets the big eyes going. and i fall for it every time and fuss over her extra. she's got me pegged, what can i say? the cats do it, too.
godwit, i'm afraid i have no clue what's going on lately. i'm assuming that since it's the labor day holiday weekend here people are off doing labor day holiday kinds of things (picnics, parties, camping, etc.) and so aren't online. last i knew it was a free-for-all on thursday night/friday morning, and then i kinda lost track til today. my sinuses are giving me fits as well, so i'm a little overmedicated and not all that coherent.
but on the cafe - wait for it, it'll come around again. always does.
am not ignoring your pm, just not very functional today. will get back to ya.

well, not total, no silence is really total. . I mean, as long as you have a body you are going to hear your blood pounding in your ears. . .

Yeah, they will make you wait for the antibiotics. And I'm sure Chuck would be shaking his finger at me for mentioning them this early on.

OH, don't I know it!

Oh, please. Don't get me started on hyper-perception. Thankfully, as I grow older, at least that problem is getting less and less. I'm just going to go deaf and blind.
On an entirely different subject . . .
Any suggestions on how I should respond to posts that are 2 to 5 (!) pages old?
I've already tried:
I) Just post a reponse in the middle of an entirely different thread, even though it doesn't fit at all;
P) Just send a response by pm, so you actually respond without interrupting the current thread; or
F) Just don't respond at all and forget about it.
Or, should I just forget about this problem, or deal with it in a pm?
Drat! I've already interrupted the thread with this AND, re-edited this twice, no make that three times! I really need remedial keyboarding!

I'm trying to remember what I used to hear ... typically it was something along the lines of "And? So what do you want me to do about it? You know what to do - go gargle, take some aspirin, and go to bed. I've got better things to do than listen to you complain about feeling bad. We're not made of money, you know - you had to go and get sick, so go and tough it out. We're not wasting money on a doctor unless you need one." (It was not a warm and fuzzy household.)
And if my granny showed up the next day to visit I'd rat my folks out and granny would throw a fit and I'd go home with her and get homemade chicken soup and "poor babied" and a cold washcloth for my eyes and I wouldn't have to do my chores....

I spoiled that kid - used to put her jammies and towels in the dryer when she was a toddler and having her bath, so when she'd get out of the tub the towels would be all fluffy and warm, as would the jammies. Nice to have warm jammies on a chilly night.... Of course, I did kind of create a bit of a monster, doing that.

double post.
chuck made me do it.
he's got a claymore, you know.
no match for a sharp pointy stick.

godwit - things move so fast here that all i think you can realistically do is respond to the post when you first read it, no matter where the thread has gone on to.
folks seem to be able to sort it all out.
but, then again, you might just want to do whatever is most comfortable for you.
ok, if it's going to stay this dead in here i'm breaking out the zinfandel, cranking the stevie ray vaughn, throwing the kid a box of "contact" and a box of kleenex, locking my room door so i'll have some peace and quiet, and taking a mental holiday.
you've been fore-warned - i will not be responsible for any pilchard throwing that ensues.
