Books: I like mostly fantasy type books, if I were to sit here and type all that I like the list would never end.

Why are you here?
The more I search for a reason why I am the way I am, the more and more I come across Autism and Aspergers. Probably have the same story here as everyone else.. always had trouble socializing and making friends, always the outcast. I'm 18 years old and I can hardly speak when spoken to. Finally decided I was through with that and went looking for answers.

Favorite music:
Pixies, Beirut, Carissa's Wierd, and Akira Yamaoka are among my favorites. I will listen to literally anything.. I love anything that sounds unique to me. You'll see everything from chiptunes to Macedonian brass bands in my library.

Books:
Don't read a lot really cause it hurts my eyes. I love Geek Love by Katherine Dunn but I mostly read independent comic books.

TV shows/Movies:
National Geographic documentaries, History and Discovery channel, CARTOOOOOONS!!, Law and Order: SVU, Comedy Central, X-Files
Gummo, Mary and Max, Clue, stoner comedies, Teeth.. I dont actually watch a lot of movies but I like movies about people with really bleak, depressing lives.

I'd love to learn accordion! I have a little First Act one from Toys R Us. I can play a little harmonica and I adore brass instruments, horns, and weird instruments like the katzenklavier

Why are you here? Jut trying to get a grasp on this Aspie world for my own self-examination.

When were you diagnosed?: I'm in the process of being diagnosed for the first time in my life after initiating the evaluation process myself only about a month ago.

Favorite subjects: When I was in school (and hope to be returning one day as a grad student), I loved most everything except math and math-related subjects (statistics made me cry - in class). My brain just does not work properly when it comes to math.

Year/Grade: Ex-graduate student, looking to return and obtain my PhD.

Favorite music: I love music, all music. I have an eclectic array of music and listen to whatever suits my mood at the time.

Books: Yes, please (books are a major shopping weakness of mine, besides food - some girls like clothes and shoes, I loooooove books, both fiction and non-fiction).

TV shows/Movies: I usually begin watching a program long after it's gone off the air, so, for example, right now I'm watching "Six Feet Under" and "Deadwood." I'm a huge "Firefly" fan and will watch that show over and over. I like nature programs and science programs. Good documentaries are wonderful, but I also love fantasy and science fiction movies. I like scary movies, but prefer to watch them during the day (my imagination gets the better of me after dark).

Instrument: I don't play an instrument, although I do sing.

Do you like sports? I will sometimes watch football (it reminds me of being at university and having people that are special to me, but no longer living nearby, around me), but I don't really get into sports all that much.

Family: Completely dysfunctional, but we all seem to be okay with it.

Clothing: If I could live in pajamas, I would! Thankfully, I have a couple of friends who I've known for over 20 years who are good with clothes and purses and shoes and they have taught me how to dress over the years (and I love it when they clean out their closets, because I have no problems wearing their hand-me-downs - they have great taste!)

How did you find this website?: via the Autism Society website, which was forwarded to me by a friend.

Job: Just took a new job after being fired from my old job (which led me to seek out the Asperger's diagnosis because I believe that my actions and words were consistently being misinterpreted, and not in a positive way). I hate being a cog in the corporate wheel and took a paycut when I accepted my new job because I wanted to do something that made sense to me, that seemed to make a difference in the world, and working with severely Autistic adults fit that bill.

Plans for the future? Grad school!! PhD!! ! Teaching!! !! (I love and miss teaching)
