I used to ride 3,000 to 5,000 miles every year.

That included riding to work. Considering that my office was above a Morman mission and I'd be in suit and tie, I wonder how many people thought I was a Morman.

Also riding to the store. I learned quickly not to buy more than I could carry in a big in one hand.

One of my greatest pleasures while riding was drafting vehicles on the streets and highways. I quit doing that when I about got hit by a bus. I was behind one bus that was a bit late going through a traffic light and almost got hit by a bus coming across that was a bit early going through the traffic light.

A few restaurants didn't see many people arrive on bicycles and would allow me to park the bicycle out of the way inside the restaurant while I ate if they weren't too crowded.

If I cycle in this heat, I'll probably faint or die. Its like thirty of degrees here and about 41 elsewhere in Europe. The main land record is about to be broken to 45 degrees C. It's probably nothing compared to the likes of California, the law enforcers of that place have warned people to evacuate there. I used to get my tyres from a catalogue shop, now even that's a no burner now. I can't, they're all stupid collection points. Dearer to buy in a bike shop than online, but most of it comes from elsewhere other than 'Local'.and then you have to include online VAT, submission fees, and postage.

I saw somebody in AZ in the late springtime, about 110 degrees F, bicycling at a rapid clip, red as a lobster. I wonder what kind of superman he was.

There's a big commercial heatwave on alright, and its about as hot as its gonna get. I blame a lot on World Leaders, who refuse to act in the best interests of climate change. :|

the county fathers where I live, decided to take the majority of the county roads and "roughen them up" to make for better winter traction, but as a result they are not bike-able anymore, just too rough a ride even with a suspension and thick rubber.

What shades do you use? One reason for better migration I guess is to get out of the Californian Sun.. literally.

The indoor sun can be just as polarizing. Believe me. Time to adjust the Rayburn.

I wish I had some sunglasses on a little more than two weeks ago when I sunburned my eyeballs. When I looked at them in a mirror, I was really surprised by how red they were -- they looked almost like pools of blood.

please take better care of your eyes, they're the only ones you can have and can't be replaced. I found that out when I got AMD due to poorly treated hypertension. proper eyewear is a start, proper nutrition follows.

I read once that if we all wore sunglasses whenever we went outside during our entire life, the incidence of cataracts would be far lower than it is now.

NO, I am into bicycle people using trails and designated bike drive through areas. I hate freaking bicycle people who think they just get to slowly move forward in front of your car and your just supposed to drive 5 mph behind them while they go as slow as possible to finally get somewhere to turn. Its like seriously at the point you are the only bike and there are cars trying to get by maybe pull to the sidewalk for a minute to at least let the bus by. Instead of costing all the job employees on the bus precious minutes for their pre-work smoke break. because its illegal to pass you on a double line road where you should move over and let the bus/vehicle by. Of course sometimes busses just have to go around because inconsiderate bikers refuse to consider that busses and cars are also using said street which go faster than they can peddle.

And what I really dont get is why bicycle people don't use designated trails they insist on popping out into the road with little warning when there is a clear bicycle trail outside the way of traffic. Then if you are walking in a park some of them wait till they are like inches behind you to ring their bell to warn you to move over to let them by. I don't usually mind it because a lot ring it before they get super close so you have time to move. But the last time at least two bike people at different times waited till they were directly behind me to honk their bike horn and scare the crap out of me just to get by. I mean serioiusly, wow man...not even an excuse me or anything just blast right by blasting your stupid bike horn, but waiting till the point I would have had literally a half a second to move. Like seriously if you are a bicycle person ring your horn at least a foot back, don't come up within inches of someone an than suddenly ring it, it can scare people so don't do it. Like seriously one of them waited till they were like directly behind one of my ears and than blasted their stupid bike horn. Like what the f**k I was just walking and I suddenly get a loud honk with no warning right in my ear by someone biker who was not even following the bike regulations.

But that is part of why a lot of people don't like bycycle bikers, Like plenty of them act like as*holes that are somehow superior to anyone taking a bus or driving. LIke not everyone has a biker bod and a job so close they can just ride a bicycle there. But its like some of them just assume everyone has the resources to live in a total biker lifestyle without ever driving a car...well not everyone lives so close to work.

that is what my late mother's ophthalmologist recommended. I've been doing it all my life.
