Welcome Hannes. I am half South African. My mother is from Johansburg. I think I went once to where you are from 14/15 years ago. It's a pretty place.

I apologise for not answering your replies. There have been a few drastic changes in my life. I have been forced (due to economic circumstances) to change jobs, and I am now living in Secunda, working for Sasol, an oil-from-coal petrochemical company in the Eastern Highveld of South Africa. It is not the nicest part of South Africa to live in, the area is covered in coal fired power stations, and coal mines, which means the quality of the air that you breathe is not all that good. The area is also pretty flat and uninteresting, quite a drastic change from Hartbeespoort! But as they say, beggars can't be choosers. The rads in this area are also in a terrible state. I own a motorcycle, and like to go for rides on a weekend, but in this area it is hardly worth it. However, I should be able to retire in about six years time, when I can return to Hartbeespoort, and then reaaly enjoy riding my bike!

Who are your relatives in SA? Were you born there?

My great grandfather is Antonio Recas- Anthony Reckas.

I am actually a quarter Scottish. My grandmother on my dad's side was born in Edinburgh. My grandfarther met her there while he was studying medicine. I was born in Bloemfontein in South Africa. I have one brother and one sister still living in South Africa. My other sister is currently in Singapore, where her husband works for Nestle Nutrition.
