Hi. I'm pretty new here tho I was dx a couple of years ago. It took me all this time to stop by and chat. I've been reading the discussions but not participating much. its a little overwhelming not knowing which forum to discuss what. there seems to be a lot of overlap in topics and its a little confusing not knowing what to discuss where. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I will probably say a lot of harsh things. Things I would never say in the real world. Like I never do these "hi im new" cause I think they are generally pretty stupid.
I was not sure if I belonged in this group. ....

Yeah. Me, too. But here we are anyway.

I don't know how to make friends. I don't know how to keep people around. I don't understand the dynamics.

I'm grateful for those who do stick around, and once I'm comfortable with them (it takes years), I really, really enjoy them.

But I need a lot of alone time, too, and most people don't understand that.

Sufi,

I have made one friend online through a forum. We are now separated by state lines, but email and SMS each other often.

To be honest, I think AS people find it difficult to make friends in any environment, but when they are able to, the friendships can be good ones. I have a small number of friends, but they are very good friends. Funnily enough, most (maybe all?) of them have special needs children, and I was the one with the "normal" child until the dx of AS two months ago.

Birds of a feather...?

Well, then again...what's a friend? Is it someone who understands everything about you, overlooks all your flaws and glitches or someone who occupies the physical space contiguous to yours? I don't know really. I just posted about being misunderstood when I blurt out what I'm thinking, never to my benefit either. I get scolded a lot for brutal clarity ( TO ME ), so I know what you mean. Wrong Planet seems full of people who've already read the book, so lengthy explanation is unnecessary. Start there and WELCOME!

You took the words right out of my mouth, nonickname :P

And sufi, WELCOME! *hugs*
