Okay, so we made an appointment for Kai to take the ADOS on the 8th.

Is there anything I should do to prepare him? Is there any information that I should bring with me? Can anyone send me good vibes for driving in morning rush hour traffic in Portland?

It's been awhile. This thread is a tiny slice of the internet for me, so I'll utilize it, whether anyone remembers me, or cares, or whatever.

Took the ADOS. Scored in the "Normal" range for communication. Scored in the "Autistic" range for the social stuff. Combined scores put him in the "Autistic Spectrum" range.

Doctor that was an as*hole to us before called me randomly about a month ago and told me that if I need a diagnosis to give to someone for him to go to a special summer camp or whatever, to give her a call. I asked her, "So... what? He has a diagnosis?" She said, "Well, we'll talk about it in July." I told her that it sucks to be a parent and have someone tell you something about your own son that you don't even know. I told her that she currently knew something more about MY KID than I did. She kept pushing to talk in July, I asked her if there was ANYTHING she could tell me now.

She said: *sigh* I can appreciate the frustration and uncertainty you must have at this point in time, however, I have not made an OFFICIAL diagnosis. I can tell you this: my findings are consistent with your initial concerns. Asperger's Syndrome. That is my "unofficial official" diagnosis.

I guess her opinions and knowledge could change between that call and the end of July, but as of right now, Kai "unofficially officially" has AS.

I also found out that people in the paternal side of his family have actually already been diagnosed. I had no idea. One diagnosed AS, one diagnosed HFA, one suspected AS. But none of these people are in his direct line. Is it possible for him to have the genetic predisposition for autism, even if it's not a direct relative? It's 2 of his second cousins and a great aunt. Weird?

Thank you Martin.

There seems to be a number of AS/Bipolar Parent/Child relationships. Maybe I just see a lot of them because I am looking for them.

:)
