Questions about you
What is your first name? Sheryl
Age: 51
Location: Indiana
Hobbies and Interests: I don't know if I have any hobbies, unless you count reading. I spend most of my free time (and a lot more time that I shouldn't be spending) researching my latest obsession, which varies. Some of the obsessions that I have cycled back into lately are Walt Disney and Disney World, sex abuse, fandom (media or science fiction -- never been a terribly active fan but I like to read about fandom), religion, Bible History, and Aspergers.
Why are you here? See above on obsessions.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I've known I had some strong Asperger traits since researching on my second son's issues ten or more years ago. I have not been officially diagnosed although I'm planning on talking to someone soon. Eldest daughter shares a lot of my issues and I'm thinking I'll end up sending her in soon and we'll both be happier if I do it first and see what kind of family fall out it gets. Also, I want to vet the psychiatrist. Neither one of us wants to be "normal," we're just interested in collecting coping skills, so I want to make sure the guy isn't all about Conformity.
Favorite subjects: varied according to year, but math (NOT arithmetic, which I hated), physics, English, poly sci
Year/Grade: some college
Favorite music: Not good at favorites. I listen to CCM, classical, ethnic, hard rock, a few heavy metal bands, and a lot of Disney.
Books: Mostly non-fiction but I'm trying to get back into fiction again. Patricia A. McKillip's written some stuff I absolutely adore. Recently re-read To Kill a Mockingbird and was in awe.
TV shows/Movies: Current: Myth Busters. Castle. How the States Got Their Shapes.
Classic: Adderly. The A-Team. Star Trek (TV show and classic Trek movies) Star Wars. Lord of the Rings.
Instrument: I can pick out a tune on the piano or a guitar.
Do you like sports? No, unless you count watching dressage or jumping. And I don't mind watching ice skating, gymnastics, or diving with my mom, but never watch them on my own.
Family: Close to hubby and five kids (18 yo to 11 yo); not so close to the rest but we all try to get along.
Clothing: Must be natural fabrics or I won't wear it because it isn't comfortable (used to buy stuff all the time I'd never wear before a friend pointed out the natural fabrics thing), have been into loose soft cotton knit shirts, pants and shorts lately. I like color and adore paisleys but mostly just get whatever fits, is comfortable, and is sold somewhere I'm going anyhow, which usually means solids. I wear my underwear inside out (to avoid the seams), my shirts low cut (because I can't stand anything close to my throat) and my shoes tied very tight (I dunno why -- used to prefer fairly tight shirts and jeans as well but have shifted away from that, and I did that because I didn't like the feel of cloth brushing my skin so doesn't explain the shoes thing anyhow).
How did you find this website? Googling
Job: Home maker and homeschooler, however I worked as an office temp for a decade or so. Which meant I could quit without losing my job, take tons of mini vacations, and never had to go to office parties, but paid dismally and meant I had to listen to my family and friends complain about me being underemployed.
Plans for the future? I have great hopes of getting back into writing, which is where the whole inertia thing is killing me. I got out of the habit of writing because you cannot let the whole world slide when you have little ones, and even if I could get past the inertia thing, I don't know how to write without it taking over everything for days or weeks at a time, which is not a great plan if you need to be hauling kids to classes and eating regularly and all that.
