I don't know why they don't have a think tank someplace that does nothing but put out urban myths, people do like them alot. I see a buck in this. Maybe 2.
I didn't like that Santa talk. I still have hopes.
But I do like the urban myth think tank talk.
The problem I see with that though is: Doesn't the urban myth think tank already exist in every media outlet, every advertisement, and practically everybody's mouth, already?
I mean, is there anything that's discussed regularly that isn't an urban myth? Well, other than the suburban myths, the rural myths, and the rarer wilderness myths, of course.
Like, does anybody actually employ scientific methods anymore, like scientists used to, once upon a time, before they also got into cashing in through myth making?
Dunno. The whole concept of why myths were created are pretty interesting, well to me. Personly I think the fear element enters into it. Fear sells. Real knowledge doesn't make the best seller list all that often. It usually shows up in the C section on page 14, lower left hand corner. But a lot of myths, legends have some basis in fact, just get a little distorted.
Flatlanders and Ridgerunners: Folktales from the Mountains of Northern Pennsylvania. It was written by a guy I was just beginning to meet. It's about my area mostly. I never could get him to talk to much about what he knew, he was more interested in what I was up to. I never got the chance to grant him his wish. Helluva nice guy.
