Happy 400th page, everyone!
Postie, the Doctor you're thinking of was the fourth regeneration, played by Tom Baker. each of the Doctors has had his eccentricities in dress - Four had the long striped scarf. The current Doctor is Ten, played by David Tennant (his choice of dress involves a tight pinstriped two-piece suit with a skinny Eighties tie). He's a bit darker than most of the Doctors, because the Ninth Doctor had been forced to kill the rest of the Time Lords in an attempt to destroy the Daleks - and then found out it hadn't worked. He's been a little down about that ever since...
Godwit, it's hard for me to follow the debate, because you keep deleting your posts entire. I really am interested, though - would it help if I promise never to be offended by anything you type?
Baines was indeed possessed by the alien Family at that point, but on the other hand, he was a son-of-a-beeyotch when he was still human, too. Jenny was pretty blameless, but she was a servant at a boys' boarding school in 1913, so she can't have been too unfamiliar with the treatment - she was mostly afraid because of the whole "being inside an invisible alien spacecraft with a weird kid from the school" thing, I think.
Couldn't watch the clip, but mostly because that whole looping thing makes me want to tear my ears out.
