What is your first name?

Robin

Age:

47

Location:

North East UK, by the sea.

Hobbies and Interests:

computers, gaming

Why are you here?

To learn more about what it means to be an aspie

When were you diagnosed?

January 2013

Favorite music:

Kate Bush, David Sylvian, Darren Hayes, and just about anything from the 80s

Books:

Can't really concentrate long enough to get anywhere with books these days, but I used to read a lot of science fiction, fantasy, conspiracy theories

TV shows/Movies:

Doctor Who, Star Trek, Dark Shadows (the TV series, not the film). Much prefer vintage TV to the vacuous mind-rotting pap we're force fed today..

Instrument:

Have been trying to learn the piano for years.

Do you like sports?

No, and I'm the only one in my entire family who doesn't.

Family:

Have mother, step-mother, brother, step brother and step sister, plus various nieces and nephews. I have no significant other, but have been adopted by two cats.

Clothing:

Casual.

How did you find this website?

Google, I think.

Job:

Not at the moment. Was a computer programmer for 20 years, but difficulties in trying to function in a corporate environment led to many episodes of depression and anxiety. Eventually decided to change career and retrained as a nurse. Did this for a while, but a couple of years ago experienced a severe breakdown which I now know to be middle aged aspergers burnout and haven't been able to work since.

Plans for the future?

At the moment I'm just trying to survive from one day to the next. Will hopefully be able to get back to doing some sort of work at some point in the future...

Any comments? I just started reading about autism last week, from the book Look Me In the Eyes by John Robison. Before then, I knew nothing about it, and I had no idea why I was so different from everyone around me, or why I had such a hard time doing "normal" things. I'm not going to lie, learning about autism has been the best thing that's happened to me in a very long time. Everything makes so much sense now! I look forward to learning more.

Haha, well I think they're pretty common Aspie interests (except maybe soccer, which is a huge part of my life)
but it's nice to finally be in a place where your interests aren't perceived as weird or abnormal, so thanks!

Yea they are pretty common Aspie traits, I've just never seen anyone on WP list precisely my own interests before, and I didn't even mention movies, which I love too! I'm a total film buff!

It's not a bad time to be a Belgian football fan, so many top young players. Especially Eden Hazard, who is sometimes guilty (for Chelsea at least!) of one dribble too many, but I think Jose Mourinho will sort that out and by the end of next season he will be amongst the very best!

My national team (Scotland) are really poor just now, It's so depressing! We did just beat Croatia though, which did help Belgium out somewhat. :)

Movies are my main escapism!

We have a lot of really talented, young, players indeed but i wonder how they'll evolve as a team. My favourite player is definitely Courtois. I've seen him grow in my club and I couldn't have been more proud when I see him kicking ass in Spain right now ;-)

Yes, you definitely did! And I can imagine how depressing it must be, Belgium was always pretty shite and there's no fun in watching your team lose every single match. Oh well I hope you'll have some nice matches still in store for you and we'll meet again on 06/09 I think :D

What is your first name? James

Age: 37

Location: Oklahoma

Hobbies and Interests: stamp collecting, organic gardening, bicycling, reading, peace activism, writing, creating websites

Why are you here?: Long story, I'll have to tell it another time. In short though, I think I may have aspergers and am trying to make more sense of myself. I want to find ways to use my quarky traits in positive ways and to find ways to cope with the more problematic traits.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Not formally diagnosed but am pretty convinced based on online testing and reading that I've been doing. I have not decided yet if formal testing would be helpful or not.

Favorite subjects: Theology, history

Year/Grade: Grad Student

Favorite music: a mix of things, everything from folk/accoustic, riot-folk, americana, old school country, Jewish reggae, electronica

Books: Favorite authors are Armistead Maupin, Ray Bradbury, Wendell Berry

TV shows/Movies: Big Bang Theory

Instrument: Harmonica and trumpet

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I sometimes watch baseball. I enjoy it because it is more chilled out. I don't like most other sports. I sometimes go to basketball games with my family but it is just too loud and fast moving.

Family: Married to a woman who likely is an aspie. I think my 6 year old son might be too. And my father is definitely one.

Clothing: I do wear a sport coat for work occasionally (one of my jobs is being a lawyer), but otherwise I'm super casual.

How did you find this website? Don't remember

Job: I have 3 jobs (all part-time). I'm an activist lawyer, a minister (of a free thinking/progressive Mennonite church) and a pedicab driver.

Plans for the future?: Trying to be happier with who I am.

Any comments? Just checking out this site. This is my first post.
