What is your first name? Matt

Age: 31

Location: Central US

Hobbies and Interests: Video games, reading, photography. I can also get pretty fixated on personal finance and running from time to time.

Why are you here? I just recently realized that I probably have AS. I'm currently trying to figure out what that means for my life up to this point and for my plans for the future.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I have my 1st evaluation scheduled in 2 weeks.

Favorite subjects: I assume this means for school? I always liked history most, but was best in Math. The most interesting class I ever took was Middle Eastern Architecture for my undergrad.

Year/Grade: I've been out of school for a long time now. I have a BS in engineering and MA in economics.

Favorite music: I don't really listen to music :-/

Books: I read a ton of SF/Fantasy. I'm a big fan of anything by Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, & Lois McMaster Bujold. My favorite non-SpecFic author is probably Ken Follett.

TV shows/Movies: Band of Brothers is the greatest thing ever recorded on film, followed closely by The Wire. I don't really have anything that's currently airing that I'm very into.

Instrument: I can whistle?

Do you like sports? Team sports: no. Spectator sports: no. I like to run though. I'm a pretty decent skier when I get to do it too. I'm not sure if you count those as sports or just exercise.

Family: Wife, 1 kid, 2 dogs

Clothing: Very particular. Levi's 501s and Hanes T-Shirts when I'm at home. Brooks Brothers Slacks and OCBD at work. Work clothes are all identical so that I don't have to think about getting ready in the morning.

How did you find this website? Google

Job: Engineer

Plans for the future? Not sure. Things are kind of in turmoil right now.

What is your first name? William

Age: 26 (I'm getting old)

Location: The Netherlands

Hobbies and Interests: Movies, TV shows, Vidoe Games, Animals, Philosophy, Documentaries. Does

Why are you here? To make some friends and talk to someone about autism. Also in search of information. Also, want to meet a girl with the same interests as me.

When were you diagnosed? Just a month ago. I was diagnosed with autism. In the DSM5 a lot of the different groups have been put together in a general category of autism spectrum disorders. I have most in common with Aspergers.

Favorite subjects: Movies, TV shows, Video Games, Animals, Philosophy, Documentaries. I have always something to talk about. Not like most men, I like to talk ;)

Year/Grade: Could not go to high school because of my disabilities. I have learned myself everything I know. English isn't even my native language. I just learned by watching movies and stuff.

Favorite music: Classical music is fantastic, but pop-music like Boyzone, Adele is also awesome. These days I listen to movie soundtracks often like Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Matrix and so on.

Books: I fall asleep when I try to read a book. It's like a disorder. I like reading books but within 2 or 3 pages I fall asleep.

TV shows/Movies: Game of Thrones, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Grimm, Marvel movies, Science Fiction. The only thing I don't like are movies with criminal activity and cops. Just does not interest me at all.

Instrument: How rude to ask. Let's just say I play the flute "weird face"

Do you like sports? No. Why not? Just, no.

Family: Wow! Don't like talking about them. They can't accept my autism so I have thrown them out of my life.

Clothing: Preferably, for me, yes but if it's a girl, I don't mind if she doesn't wear any... But seriously, I just wear clothes, nothing special. Brands don't mean anything to me.

How did you find this website? Google is my friend!

Job: Dealing with autism... I can't work so I get welfare

Plans for the future? Now that you ask... 2 days later. Better not ask me this. I take every day a day at a time.

Any comments? I like this! Good to learn to know people through this. Sorry for the obvious jokes.

If someone finds this interesting and wants to talk, you can always PM me.

Maybe it's fun to add some questions like:

Relationships? Single
Do you love animals? I love animals
What kind of animals? (skip if you don't like any animals) Too much to put here.

What is your first name?: Not ready to share.

Age: 22

Location: Ontario, Canada

Hobbies and Interests: Researching topics about human health, running, swimming, lifting weights, painting, drawing, and organizing things. I love to organize.

Why are you here? I am new to the Aspergers community, and I am hoping to make some friends in order to become more social.

When were you diagnosed?: About 3 weeks ago, but I've had struggles all my life.

Favorite subjects: Health science, math.

Year/Grade: One year away from a BHSc degree, hoping to pursue a Master's degree afterwards.

Favorite music: Alternative rock, indie, pop, hip hop

Books: I'm not a big reader, and when I do read, they tend to be textbooks or health magazines.

TV shows/Movies: don't watch that much TV anymore, I don't have a favorite movie either

Instrument: I used to play the flute and the saxophone all through public and high school. I miss it, so I'm hoping to purchase an alto saxophone again in the future.

Do you like sports? I don't do team sports. I dislike competition, and being in a crowded group of competitive people seems like a nightmare to me. I also suck at every sport ever except for soccer. I distance run though, is that a sport?

Family: My father passed away 10 years ago, my sister is estranged, and my Mother moved hours away. So it's just me, and my fiance.

Clothing: I HATE tight clothes. The feel of it just drives me crazy, it feels so gross. I love to wear loose and/or comfy clothes like sweat pants, yoga pants, loose t-shirts, etc. I also have some body image issues, so I tend to hate tight clothes for that reason to.

How did you find this website? Google.

Job: I work part time in retail while going to school.

Plans for the future? I would love to get into disease prevention/rehabilitation, medicine, or something with human physiology or biomechanics.

Any comments? :)

What is your first name?: I'd prefer to stay anonymous for the time being.

Age: 32

Location: West Sussex, UK

Hobbies and Interests: Reading, researching.

Why are you here? My eldest daughter is awaiting diagnosis (assessment next month) and I recognise many of the traits of Asperger's in myself, although I'm not formally diagnosed. Mainly, I just don't understand people and how emotional and illogical they seem to me, but also I have sensory issues and I'm obsessed with tidying/organising things 'properly'. My official diagnosis is OCD & depression but I suspect ASD/social anxiety.

When were you diagnosed?: As above.

Favorite subjects: I get focused on different issues depending upon where I'm at in life.

Year/Grade: I graduated 11 years ago and do nothing related to my degree, though I hold a 2:1 BSc in Sociology with Social Psychology, for what it's worth now.

Favorite music: Varied but I don't tend to like current pop.

Books: Currently Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. I have my eye on Sylvia Plath after that.

TV shows/Movies: I like Netflix series' mainly. The Killing currently, then back to the next series of Person of Interest when it returns.

Instrument: I'm not talented in this regard.

Do you like sports? No, I don't enjoy things I'm not good at.

Family: Husband and two daughters, aged 2 & 4.

Clothing: I used to have issues with clothing when I was much younger but really not so much now, although I won't wear wool as it's so itchy.

How did you find this website? Google.

Job: I return to my career of nearly a decade tomorrow after resigning six months ago, which I soon came to regret (though I did get to spend 6 months with my girls, which was important). Not ready to share what that career is yet, though.

Plans for the future? I want to live more simply.

Any comments? I'm not sure how I feel about myself at the moment.

When were you diagnosed? At the age of 24.

How did you find this website? I was first made aware of Wrong Planet when I was diagnosed with Asperger's; WP was listed as an online resource in a compendium that the psychiatrist gave me, and I believe she even mentioned it specifically as I website I ought to visit.

Why are you here? Until recently I've had little interest in learning about asperger's or meeting fellow aspies. This changed late March this year when I was attending a course for engineers. After the course everybody that attended had dinner together. There was a girl sitting opposite of me at my table, we talked and I got the impression that she had asperger's as well. Since I became "aspie-aware" back in 2006, I have met several men I could tell had asperger's, but this was the first (and so far the only) girl I have met that I suspected had this condition. Naturally this girl caught my interest, and a few days later I manned up and called her on the phone to ask her on a date-kind-of. She seemed bothered (and almost annoyed) that I called, and as she realized the intent behind my call, she moaned "Oh no... *sigh*". Now, I was prepared to get turned down, just not like this. But she admitted she was single. While I know that I'm not everybody's cup of tea, I also know (or believe) that I'm not that ugly and unpleasant, so her behavior left me puzzled. This is where Wrong Planet came to mind... I came here to learn about asperger's.

Hobbies and Interests: Nothing and everything - mostly nothing. I'm inclined to take an interest in everything related to biology, software programming languages, geography, history, geopolitics, current events, and more... I try to exercise regularly by indoor (and sometimes outdoor) cycling and by lifting weights.

Favorite music: Mostly rock, but I also listen to funk, soul, RnB, hip hop, pop and electronic music. I like music with rhythm, groove and melody. Some of my favorite bands are Hot Water Music, Queens of the Stone Age, Propagandhi, Raised Fist, and cKy. Classic/70's rock is great too!

Books: I don't like to read and I rarely do so, but when I do read, it usually is factual prose.

TV shows/Movies: I rarely watch TV-shows and movies. I do not own a TV and never go to the movies. My all time favorite TV-shows are Twin Peaks and X-Files. Some of my favorite movies are The Usual Suspects, Falling Down, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Miss Sunshine, and Yes Man.

Do you like sports? Nope.

Clothing: Casual yet formal. Loose fit jeans. Nothing eccentric. I buy my clothes at some of the "cooler" and not too cheap clothing stores.

Plans for the future? None.

Any comments? Yup...

I registered this account on about the same day that I rediscovered this site, believing I would take part in the discussions. However, I couldn't fully relate to a lot of what was written, neither do I have any challenges of my own that I would like to discuss, and I generally do not have that many opinions, so I wasn't sure what to do with the account: delete it, just abandon it, or start using it... Well, anyway, this is my first post!

I consider myself to be high functioning; my most recent self-assessment indicates that I am merely a borderline aspie - not keeping in mind that my own assessment probably is biased and that the tests in themselves are a bit dubious. While I've realized that I may have a minor sensitivity issue with sudden high-pitched sounds, like jumping in my chair when the phone rings, I've never experienced sensory overload, or had a meltdown (I'm not sure if these are the same thing). Neither do I stim... I think. And I have no recollection of ever having had any special interests; in fact I've barely had any strong and lasting interests at all. I did take an interest in biology at an early age (not sure at what age, but at least I had my own microscope at the age of 8), yet I never memorized facts or had any sizable collections of anything. I would say my aspie traits are more of a social character, i.e. lack of eye contact, not knowing what to say in conversations, and generally being a little socially awkward. I remember that I did not play with the other kids when I was in kindergarten (typically I just hid in a corner of the playground), and to this day I still don't like being around other people.

I've been diagnosed with so-called ADD as well, though I can relate much better to the yet to be formally recognized condition that has been termed "sluggish cognitive tempo". My verbal and motor tics would suggest that I have Tourette's as well, but I've never bothered getting diagnosed for this.
