Oh. Thanks for explaining. Can you plug their points of entry with something? I'd hate to have critters running round the place. I lived in one place that had bats. Luckily, I was able to find a humane exterminator. He merely observed them a couple of evenings, figured out how they were getting into the attic, and then plugged up the holes. They had to find another "condo" to move into, LOL.

BATS! I have BATS in my kitchen. At least I had on there the other night. Damn landlady. . no screens on the windows. . nice little brown hairy mammal, though. Scared and perched on the light fixture. I turned off the light and waved the broom toward the window. .he/she flew right out. . .'

not interested in having more bats in the kitchen but don't want to not have fresh air. . .

perhaps you feel like sharing your reasons?

It was our house number for the first 14 years of my life. And fours follow me everywhere. I didn't realize you were talking about page 444 that we were on. :) That's why I said "Never mind. Duh"

Several days ago I spent a good deal of time reconstructing the house I grew up in, inside and out, from my memory. When I was finished I added 444 on the wall by the door. It was a really good feeling, being able to look at it and show it to my younger sister who was only 5 years old and had forgotten what our old house looked like. when we moved to another house, the number was 2604.

444 = 3; 2604 = 3 So happy belated 444 to you. :D

You might want to check the Delta Society. It's a hell of a lot cheaper and might be useful to you. We've worked with them in the past, and all our interactions were quite good.

Well, Reika, the Vh1 "Rock For Autism" website is just chockful of links to groups like Autism Speaks, Cure Autism Now!, and just about every other group that wants us to shut up and take whatever "treatment" they've decided is in fashion this season, in order to "cure" us so we can be more like them (electroshock is still passe, right? Right?). I dropped them a line, asking why they didn't have a link to, say, WrongPlanet, or autism.org, or maybe even Getting the Truth Out (gettingthetruthout.org), but so far, they haven't seen fit to reply, for some reason...

Alaska Schutzhund Club

reika, give these guys a hello howdy do.

Don't be put off by the web pictures, it isn't all about bite training. It's easy to get a dog to bite, the training is in the command "out". I was doing it for a while and then the main trainers took me off it. They said they didn't want the dogs to get used to biting those with long hair, I agreed.

I was always partial to the Belgian line, the shepherds (Groenendael and the Tervuren's) and they aren't the easiest of the working dog breeds to train. But they sure are good lookin. They also require a little more care then some to maintain. But that is part of the bonding as well. I wouldn't doubt you're in a very very good locale to find a top dog reasonably priced. But if the above link can't guide you in what you're looking for, I'd be mighty surprised. The reason we have Ike the Mastiff is, I had been with out sleep for about 48 hours and The Wife snuck em by me. I was awake for the two Dachshunds, I have no excuses for those. That will teach me to sleep more often and not go into the "yes dear" mode.

Those into dog training are an odd bunch. Many have been into horses as well. That they can be a little more then odd, makes it easy to fit in, the subject is always clear and you can't bore another dog trainer when you start talking dogs. That you can get a word in edge wise, different story. They all have "kennel eyes". (Their dog is the best) I suppose it's a lot like mothers and their kids. Well Johnny got straight A's, HA!! she replied, my Johnny got all A's AND cooked the food in the cafeteria.

Yes, reika had misspelled it. I thought shew was some sort of regional nickname for a mouse. I was close! :) I like that word, shew.

Excellent sound on that Deacon, very unlike YouTube to get that good. Very under rated band in my not so humble oponion.

I went to a 'brown bag' presentation by my company on Resilience: How to Bend without Breaking. I had 45 minutes for lunch, special time so I could go. As I seated myself around the table a woman was whinging to the presenter guy about some horrible young child she had to care for that had 'a high functioning autism'. Well, this was right up my alley, so I said 'oh, like Asperger's Syndrome' and she says "it's pronounced ASS BURGERS" and no, the child in question didn't have it. She was "yadda yadda yadda with a chromosome that was broken so she never feels 'full' but is always hungry" and I said "oh, yes, I know how that feels "and she told me I was "butting into their conversation" so I shut up.

We waited ten minutes before starting because the three of us that cared to be there on time were not deemed enough to start with and anyway, those who are prompt always have to pay for it by having to wait for others, whether they show up or not. Finally, the presenter decided those faithful three were now worthy after waiting the requisite late start and started the PowerPoint presentation by reading to us what it said up on the screen.

This guy was telling us to tense up all our muscles and then let them go, tense them all up and let them go. . .visualize warm sun shining down on us. I just had to open my mouth and say "Endorphins are our friends" and the presenter guy said "oh, you know about endorphins?? " and I just said 'yes'.
Somewhere he asked 'who can you think of that has overcome obstacles?' I half raised my hand. Cripes there were only three of us, I was trying to be helpful. "Who?" he said, "Me" I said, 'How?" and I showed the class my 14 inch scar across my cheek and told them I broke my back in 5 places when I did it. I said I overcame that. When will I learn to shut up?? He wanted to know how, when, why, what happened, how did I struggle back and was I now stronger than I was before. I told him it was all a long time ago and I didn't dwell on the negative aspects and I had no idea if I was stronger now than I was before.

Goodness, it was 27 years ago, what were YOU like 27 years ago and how are you different now?? quick, answer fast because some dude you didn't know ten minutes ago wants to use you in front of the class as an object lesson!!
I just said I didn't know and then we were passed out the same PowerPoint presentation in paper form to read on our own. In it was a test about how resilient you were to change and stress. I took the test. The presenter guy said. . .well. . if you got over 70% on the test you can leave, or come up here and teach the class. .

I packed it up and packed it in and got up and left. I actually had to get back, my 45 minutes were over. . but I just couldn't stand it there any more.

I got 90% on the test.

Merle, you might also want to pass on to your coworker that Prader-Willi syndrome, while it can result in developmental delays, is not autism - and most particularly not high-functioning autism. The developmental difficulties are more akin to Down's Syndrome, and the subject exhibits no particular difficulty with the mysteries of "body language".

On the other hand, the heartbreak of Prader-Willi can be even worse - reading some of the parental testimonials can tear you up, especially as they describe such things as having to lock the refrigerator door to keep a four-year-old girl from eating until her abdomen literally explodes...

I think maybe she's confusing "ASS BURGERS" and "EAT BURGERS"... :)

You are correct. . .it was Prader-Willi syndrome. Sorry to hear about the tragic aspects of it.
