And what makes you think we'd ever do that, dear Merle?
I carry every one of you in my heart wherever I go.

... therefore, as long as I live, so shall all of you.

Hello, and best wishes to all! My gut tells me that Nan and her daughter are ok. I hope that every one of you are.

Take care,
Chuck

My new emoticon that I use for greeting newcomers, I got from Photo-bucket.
You may use that one as well.

What I'm referring to is that I haven't caught the news yet, as in didn't look at the CNN, ITN, or MSNBC pages or even turn on
my satellite dish....

Almost happened last week. Chuck barely got out of the chess club in time. The woman isn't even my wife, or Chuck's, just someone's wife. I didn't ask what had made her jealous, and why playing with Chuck was a betrayal of my vows. I was too busy begging forgiveness for whatever it was that the whole thing was about. It wasn't made easier by her screaming at me: "What was it I told you last time? What did I say?" I had to resort to the profound obeisance. You know, bounce your forehead off the floor repeatedly, kiss the feet, the whole kaboodle. All for the sake of Chuck's old age. I want Brownie Points for this!

So glad Nan is alright! :) I can certainly relate to the smoky air! That must be horrible. Although it didn't get as bad as the current scenario, back when Georgia was on fire, the smoky air alone was enough to make one go ballistic. At least she is aware of where the fire is, and has an escape route planned.

I have always had a special fondness for Alice in Wonderland. When I was nine years old, I got my first copy from a minister at our church. I carried it everywhere, read it in bed with a flashlight, while I was supposed to be sleeping, and was haunted by the pictures forever. It is distressing to know that Lewis Carroll had the makings of a pedophile, but I still love that book, and always will.

Yes, wonderful news about Nan. Thanks Lauri. Thank goodness.

I've always loved Alice in Wonderland too. And Hartz, thanks for the tip about the movie about Alice Liddell. I'm going to look for it.

I knew that. I meant the jealous wife comment but it's okay, it went over my head. I used to be one of those blonde creatures.

Donning "Grumpy Old Man" hat....

Why is it that people of one culture find it so easy to make such damning judgements against people of a completely different culture, based entirely on a set of mores which are not even particularly common?

Curiously, Charles Dodgson died eight years before the word "Paidophilia"(sic) was first in use.

I'm sorry Sleepy, but you saying "I drew my own conclusion." just vaguely worries me. How can you look back on a tiny, out of context, sample of someone's actions over a hundred years ago and suggest that you can draw any sort of conclusion about them.

Ouch! I have to take this hat off!

If Dodgson was a pedophile I doubt if he would have lasted very long in Victorian society. Some Wikipedia articles should be
taken with a pound of salt. I think I'll go back to dictionary surfing.
