Lupine, I know you're a California girl as well, but don't know your exact whereabouts - hope you are ok and perhaps visiting with the Prez and Arnie today. (Please let them know that Nan would like a vat of iced tea). You will need to strap tiny respirators on your hissing cockroaches. I've read that the fires caused the eucalyptus trees to explode, and burning eucalyptus oil drives off mosquitoes and cockroaches. Should clear everyone's sinuses as well. Except for the "everything else that's in the smoke including hazardous man-made materials" thing. [A note to anyone so inclined: do not ingest eucalyptus no matter how hungry you are if you are not a koala bear. (The whole "deadly toxin" thing)]. [Postie, I know that you are at least 1/4 part koala bear, but should still nibble eucalyptus with caution].

I was able to do 20 pull-ups today at the gym, which I haven't done in quite some time, so I just weighed myself. Quelle horreur! 8O 129 pounds!?! I've been forgetting to eat lately. I've lost 20 pounds so far this month! (Good thing the Santa Anna winds weren't here - I'd have blown away). Guess I'll be a skeleton this year for Halloween. Ah, well. Just 12 more days, and this shift is over. Maybe I can sell my testimonial: How I Worked My Ass Off.

If I keep shrinking this way, I'm going to end up in a spider's web yelling, "Help me! HEEEEEELP MEEEEEEEEeeeee....! !!"

Made my day with that Wire video. Got me out of bed and moving at any rate. :D

That's a gem of an idea "How I Worked My Ass Off". :D

Playing catchup - home sick from work...

SleepyDragon, by all means, go do your best to rent the Season One DVDs for Battlestar Galactica. I really don't think you'll be disappointed. (On the other hand, if you get the Season Two discs, feel free to skip the episode "Black Market" - there was no continuity, the characters were all out of character, and nothing that happened in that episode was ever referenced again. Oh, and it really, really sucked.)

Checked out the last couple pages of that "Sheeple" thread - jjstar seems to believe that in order to be a good citizen, you must be as uninformed as humanly possible, and never, ever ask anyone about anything. Instead, make up conspiracy theories all by yourself. (Maybe he/she needs aluminum-foil-hat-making lessons from Postie!) :)

Here's a link to the San Diego Union-Tribune website, where they have a map of the fires' extent so far (thankfully, the Harris fire stopped about 15 miles short of my in-laws...).

[quote="blessedmom"]CC! Hi! I was thinking about you this morning. My son took a picture of me on Friday and I have been debating posting it for you to see because I'm still packing the last 40 lbs. from having lil' girl. But I don't think the lbs. are going anywhere anytime soon so here it is.

You are very, very pretty. You look like my cousin Geraldine. You also look a little like me. Isn't that strange? Little girl is a sweetie pie. Thanks for posting the picture.

I have enjoyed all the pictures you have posted. And thank you, lil' girl can be sweet when and if she feels like it. I'm glad you saw it because I'll have to delete it soon.
I have to laugh because I always hear I look like someone else. When I worked in Waterton, the town baker had quite the conversation going with me before I informed him I had no idea who he was. He thought I was his sister-in-law.

How are the little people at your house? There are so many nasty bugs going around this year, it's ridiculous. I've been wiping noses and applying Vaseline to noses for 2 weeks straight.

Kurt (5) is over his bug. Raven is still feeling it, runny nose, whiney, irritable. Her mother's not been getting much sleep.

Not related to my family, but there is a very bad MRSA infection going around the schools in this area. spread, I was told, by skin to skin contact. It's thriving in the locker rooms and on sports equipment, students being sent home so schools can be disinfected. I think bumps or boils on the skin are a visible symptom. Ugh.

EEWWWW! That sounds disgusting! I was suprised that I haven't received a newsletter home from school regarding head lice. I've usually gotten one or two by now.

I just got a call that Kid#2 is being brought home from school because he's ill. I wonder what kind of bug he's bringin' into the house. YEESH!! Irony......

Kid#3 has been home all week with what looks like strep throat and I was sick with the same virus he had preceding that. I would have crawled into bed yesterday if I could have. I am getting really tired of this and flu season hasn't even officially started yet.

well THAT was fun (NOT!). pc is unpacked, but the clothes and underwear are still in the car - too much hassle to haul them up from the parking lot, then up the stairs to the house. the air is full of smoke that's so fine you don't see the particles but if you breathe out there for more than a couple of minutes you feel like you've been in a marathon. ick!

the harris fire is still burning, but it's a half-dozen miles southeast of us. the witch fire is still burning, but it's headed away from us now (yea!) instead of coming straight at us. i do love the media here - we have four main tv stations and one major disaster-related radio station. during all this we got conflicting info from each one as to where the fires were and what was happening.

did get to see the witch fire from the cat shelter the other night while evac'ing cats. it was really rather beautiful. absolutely quiet out, no traffic on the highway, and we could see it come up over el capitan mountain, looking like a string of orange jewels. too far away to hear, but we could see it every time it found a new bush or tree to eat - it'd whoosh up for a while.

have to go help clean up, the cats are back at the shelter and have been in carriers for a couple of days. they're going to have to bathe each of them (ohmygawd, get the heavy work gloves!). all 350 of 'em. oy. there are days i'm glad i have a desk job and only volunteer out there!

ya'll take care.

ps if you find a place to buy the tiny cockroach respirators, don't tell ours.

Hi All, I'm back, this is a bad time of year for me and I really withdraw and think WAY too much about what might have been. My daughter would have been 24 on Oct 19th. I'm starting to come out of the "deep blue funk" her birthday always brings and if I can just get past Jan 25th I'll have it made for another year. I'm glad your safe Nan and the cat w/ the frying pan made me smile. I'v missed you all and proably won't go back and read everything I missed,(sorry, still unmotivated to be honest)
