Gonna change the subject sorry, hoping it'll break up the "fight" and keep my good, simplistic view of the world going for a little longer. :D I'm always down to watch a good debate through so "Have at it."
Anyway....does anyone know the rudiments of stock investing. I'm trying to do the right thing and invest some of my PFD in a certain mutual fund I'v had my eye on a long time. Can I just go to "Scott trade" open an account and click it's done? Have never done this before and know zero about stocks but really want into this mutual fund w/out having to hire a finiancial adviser. Want to be able to leave something to help care for my autistic daughter for when something happens to me. Any advice from anyone will be appreciated? have to go to work but will check back afterwards. It's a "Calvert" mutual fund if that makes any difference in how I'd go about purchasing it.

Glad you're here, I forgot to ask you if you had met one of the newer members. She trains Service Dogs. I'd have to hunt up the thread if you haven't.

COOL!! I never won anything in my life. So what did I win? If you leave the choice up to the Cafe, I might want to start running now. They take no prisoners, well they did once, maybe twice...humm maybe more.

Hey what ever happened to that mule and that cabanna guy that got captured? Anybody fed them lately?

Robyn (nannarob) once put it like this: many of us Dinos have been around long enough to know that nothing, good or bad, lasts forever; that the world isn't black and white, it's full of shade and nuance; that fellowship and mutual support are important; that it's a waste of valuable time to bear grudges or to argue endlessly about trivial things.

Life is too short. Let's have a laugh while we can! :jester:

You might want to check out Fidelity Investments, they are the people I have my 401k plan with.
Your bank might offer brokerage services and/or accounts that sell mutual funds.

You might want to check Consumer Reports at your local library, they sometimes review the various funds that are out there.

Ok now you can hate me, it was a PM, saying she liked my avatar and I told her where to get one. She sent the links to her 3 dogs, 2 retired iirc and one up and coming. I'll have to think on how to get a hold of her. She saw my dachshund pictures here (Link) and might still be watching that thread. I can't remember her nickname, freakin memory fails me way to much. I had the damn PM saved forever, because I wanted to know what prior trianing they did before the GS training, of course I got sidetracked.

Yeah it was the upbringing part that had me a bit stumped. That wasn't all, that had me wondering about the observations they made. But to come to a conclusion, or even a semi conclusion, that it was hard wired, is intriguing.

I didn't see the programme, but I have an opinion on the hard-wired thing anyway. I think that saying we (humans) are hard-wired one way or another really depends on time frame. We may have adapted to certain conditions with a certain way of doing / thinking that works best for survival - at that time. No reason that can't / won't change in the future as environment / circumstances change. And that, I think, is the primary human characteristic that will ultimately spell success (as a species) or otherwise - adaptability. Our adaptability is probably what helped us survive many environmental catastrophes in the past. It might be the only thing we can use in the future. But, adaptability is a slow process. It doesn't happen overnight. Bit by bit, generation by generation...until.

I haven't been reading all the posts but replying as I go. So my question to Rather Mousie may have been inapprpriate.

You didn't take the words out of my mouth, Saffix. I don't think I could have expressed myself so well! Adaptability!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: we all mature, hardwired or not. That could be a form of adaptability.
