One of the reasons I left my future Ex to be ( when I stop procrastinating and get around to the paperwork) is because of Benadryl. When we met he took a few of them cause he had allergys he said (never saw any symptoms to be honest) and by the end he was hiding it from me and was taking so many of them he was giving himself seizures and still continued to lie to me about how many he was taking so I started having to be a detective.(counted 73 pills gone in one day once) Turns out he was a complete addict and unwilling to change it. His Benadryl meant more to him than we did. He was like some fu--ed up Zombie and his cognitive function became so dulled it was pathetic to watch. I could go on and on but whats the point. Suffice it to say I hate Benadryl and still find them hidden in stuff Ive taken out of storage to this day.

Wow. I didn't realize it was a substance that could be abused to that extent.

Technically, it is not addictive. However, if it made your ex feel a certain way that he enjoyed, I suppose the feeling could have been addictive. I can't imagine how it would make anyone feel great, but each to his own. When I take Benadryl, I may as well have taken a "roofie" (flunitrazepam) as it has the same effect from what I've heard.

I am so terribly, terribly sorry. It's still small, only got permission to catch one last year, took it from the nest, hand raised it, but it's still young, immature, and I'm still learning how to educate it. Never had a sense of humour before, you see. If I may just have that shoe? Thank you.

All right my little one, no need to be scared, come on out, calm, calm, Ouch! Ahrg! %£7$! Bleep! Got you, you little bugger! Back you go. Now let's see what you have learned while you were away.

Oh, my goodness! Where did you pick that up?

Thanks for all the warnings about Benydryl. To clarify,I only took one a night but have been using it for the past 15 years, almost every night.I dont use it for alergies but because it has the same ingredient as all OC sleep meds and I could get it cheap at dollar store. It doesnt contain the "stimulant"psudophedrin...thaat stuff is like speed to me and I have always avoided it.

The Claratin D,they sell at Target does have psuedophedrine in it but I am taking the cheaper, generic version that does not have that in it.........only,10mg Loratadine.I didn't take Benadryl last night and slept fine and just took my first Loratadine,so will see what happens. It is a good time to try it as I am in one of my "hyper-itchy" phases and didnt use my normal full body dose of Calamin lotion after my bath last night....so,it is the only "alergy treatment" I am now using. Will see.

Anywho....thanks for all the personal accounts of your experiences with Bynadryl.Beside the cognitive issues and anxiety...I am wondering if it is also the cause of my feelings of constant "dissasociation".Granted I have experienced this most of my life but it does seem like it has gotten worse over the past years.

Doing my sums... the Wikipedia page suggests that one tablet is probably 50mg. Use as a "recreational drug" for its "deliriant/hallucinogen" means between 225-450mg. So, roughly five to ten tablets in one go. Its half-life is 2-8 hours (i.e. in that time, half of the stuff gets metabolised). Say you metabolise at the fastest rate. So, if you took ten tabs, for breakfast, then every two hours, you drop another five, to top back up to the ten level. Do that all day - say eight times in all. That's a total intake of fifty tablets.

73 in one day --> continuous high as a kite being flown by a man in a kite.

On that same page it also states that diphehydramine (Benadryl) acts as a serotonin-reuptake inhibitor and was what prompted the creation of Prozac. If that is indeed the case, it should definitely not be taken by someone taking Effexor, which has the same action.

Where else can you go for all this knowledge? The wealth of information and support here in the Cafe is staggering at times.

Happy Halloween, those in my time zone! :skull:

Was making lunch, saw a wasp on the counter, tried to swat it off, and wrenched my shoulder. Now I am in pain. :x Anyway, weather is reasonable today, not too hot. Going to light my orange and black candles tonight, in tribute to those who have passed on, and watch scary movies.

Yeah, I sure picked a winner that time huh? And I feel so stupid for believing his lies and how long it took me to figure out what was REALLY going on.

For all of our Dinos. If you're not in one of these, you're in another. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone.
There is no rhyme or reason to any of this. Trust me.

If I remember correctly some states including Pennsylvania started restricting the sale of SudaFed and pseudoephedrine containing medications, ie ID or proof of age or a prescription required for purchase.
