Meant to ask, Chuck: are Pinball Wizards just good at pinball, or are y'all, like, real wizards? Can you turn people into frogs? Levitate? Does this have possible applications for the library?

By a rival Pinball Wizard, I'm sure. Good thing he didn't hop through the library wormhole, or there's no telling WHERE he would have ended up!

TARANTULA UPDATE:

A couple of months ago, Rosie molted - and it turned out that she was a he (sort of like that Lou Reed song). Man-tarantulas have short lifespans, and most of that span is spent looking for lady tarantulas. (Testosterone: a blessing... and a curse.)

Not wanting Rosie (now yclept Rosario) to die a virgin, I proceeded to purchase two new tarantulas. Since it is nigh-on impossible to determine spider gender without microscopic examination of the molted exoskeleton, this was an exercise in probability (POP QUIZ: If Lupine has discerned that her tarantula is a male, what is the probability that one of the two tarantulas of indeterminate gender that she purchased on the Internet is female?) After allowing Pinky and Bunny time to adapt to their new habitat, I opened Rosario's enclosure to allow him to check out the maybe-ladies. I figured that, well, I can't tell the difference, but surely the man-tarantula can!

Unfortunately, I was distracted (still am I suppose, but that's a different story) and lost track of Rosario. Haven't seen him since. Logically, I concluded that he fell into a wormhole and is now seeking lady spiders in Chuck's library.

Or maybe the pitbull ate him.

well, at least that's a reasonably safe place...

Based upon certain linguistic singularities, blessedmom, I can only assume poor Chuck--after eating his fill of Nan's hospitality, of course--clicked his ruby flippers together and croaked 'there's no place like home, there's no place like home', and made it safely back to the wormhole infested library, just in time to capture Lupine's tarantula, which he plans to put out for stud.

Silly Chuck. You'll never make any money that way.

Yep. Sounds like the testosterone curse:

First step from bondage
oblivious to all
save the lady held in eight loving eyes
a pitbull snack.
8O

A tragic tale. Perhaps ballad material for duncansbass?

...the library work continues...

...24 hours into the project, it occurs to me that I need to improve my system.
Perhaps having a system would be a good idea.

Stuffing my bazooka with books, mailings, bills, etc. and firing it daily into the library for perusal once a decade seemed a good idea a decade ago.

Following your line of thought I tried using "assistance incantations" I found on the web - to no avail. My wizardry powers apparently suck. Forced to slog through it a mere mortal. But as Lauri points out...
...a mere mortal with new-found sinkhole! Muahahahaha!

I vote for Nan's idea...... a huge bonfire!! If you have as much flammable material as you say, I may be able to feel the heat from here.

8O With the windchill it's -31F here this morning!!

late at night on tv, in between advertisements for the slice-em-dice-em and the bass-o-matic, they used to have adverts for a gizmo where you could roll all your paper... newspapers, bags, etc.,... into a pseudolog that was suitable for burning in fireplaces. given what the temps appear to be around the country, that may not have been a bad idea.

they are telling us to enjoy our last day or two of decent weather, that we're due for an arctic blast that will put snow on the mountains down to the 2500 ft. level. that will be interesting, going out to our tea shop up in alpine next saturday and finding it covered with snow. in san diego county. how weird is that?

about the two new tarantulas and the poor old tarantula. sounds like he may have been taken out for ... a picnic, yes, that's it, a picnic... and...uh... wandered off by himself to find somewhere warm in which to bask.
