... 8O With the windchill it's -31F here this morning!!

That's the coldest weather temperature I have ever felt. One night at work I heard over the radio that it was -31F outside. I took off my shirt and walked outside to see if I could tell the difference by sensation between -31F and 0F. Couldn't tell really. I guess after a certain point, cold just feels cold. It did make my skin feel hot and prickly actually. The wind wasn't blowing though - the air was absolutely still. I stood out in it for about 5 minutes, then realized my eyes felt like they were starting to freeze, so I went back in. Then my skin felt like it was on fire!

Have you ever put your hands in water after being outside in the cold for several hours? Wow, does that ever hurt!

My brother and I jumped into Little River in the Smoky Mountains one winter (that mountain water is cold in the summer time). There were icicles hanging off the rocks. That's the coldest sensation I've ever felt - when my head went under. That'll wake you up in the mornin'. Took me hours to stop shivering after we dried off.

Happy birthday, Lemon! Don't take anything Chuck says too seriously. After all, he used to live in Nan's aquarium!

And Chuck, something you said caught my interest. Re not being able to tell the diff between -31 and 0, we have the same thing where I am, just on the opposite end of the thermometer. You can tell the diff between 100F and 110F, but 110F and 120F feel about the same.

And yes, I do know by personal experience.

And any of you who might grumble about the fact that I'm wearing shorts right now, like, those up in Western Canada, (Duncan casts an eye northward), just remember that in a few short months I will be mercifully able to wear short sleeves to work, and hopefully not about to test above mentioned temperature theory.

Did I mention our hottest months are also the most humid?

oh, yeah. really, once it gets past 110F it just doesn't matter. it feels like an oven, set on "bake".

Sometimes my brother and I will just look at each other with a wide-eyed crazy look, and we'll start laughing and just do something bizarre. Can't really explain it - but it always cracks us up. I just love him -what can I say.

My brothers do whacky things like that, too. They went to the annual Polar bear swim in Edmonton one year. 8O

Sorry you have to live thru that! Bet that saps your energy!
I trained on the Mohave desert - reached 130F - but wasn't humid at all - so wasn't really all that bad.

you know, after a point, heat is heat. i keep telling them, when someone tells me 115F is "dry heat" that they can put that on my tombstone - "It was DRY heat that killed her."

chuck. you and your brother. i'll file that away under "male insanity". same with lauri's bro.
