I've just checked the thread for reporting problems, but there's been no response as of yet about this. Maybe it stopped?

the I-8 is closed due to ice. it was snowing - they got over an inch by 7pm yesterday - at the tea shop. they had over a foot of it at descanso, farther out. my car door was frozen shut (ice) this morning. i don't own a scraper anymore, so i waited for it to melt off the windshield (which was fine, i was in no hurry). 8O

there were a dozen cop cars with lights going, half a dozen hook and ladder trucks, a hazmat truck, and several ambulances on campus when i got here this morning. nobody's saying why. 8O

my immediate boss, who never - literally never - is out, called in sick today. 8O

half the rest of staff has called in sick. several of those who have not called in sick are calling in to take personal days off.

and there are more dead students, this time up somewhere by chicago.

they're going to install i.m. on our computers because the copshoprep came through and did a safety inventory and said this place needs so many upgrades they might as well raze the building, and that costs too much money. they have to be able to pay the obscene salaries some of the hotshot faculty and up-stream admin get. and host those parties for dignitaries, with the $6 per shrimp finger-foods. because that brings in the research dollars, and then they can build more research labs. classrooms, no. who cares if the kids can't get their classes because there's not enough space. what the hell, they don't need students. they've got the research bucks pouring in....

so we get i.m. on our desktop and are supposed to i.m. for help if there are any disturbed students who show up. :?

what the hell. i'm gonna do my filing and leave, too. it's not worth it. :(

they're about to raise student fees 10%. and, in the works, is another 10% fee raise they're not mentioning officially. the poor kids. it's such a shame. :(

ah, and the creature is on trial, finally. http://www.kcbd.com/global/story.asp?s=7875334

it's just not worth paying attention to. the world. it's insane out there. :?

They've finally started transmitting series 9 of ANTM over here.
I just saw the second episode.
(I missed the first episode, I think, last week.)
Heather is indeed interesting.
In this one, certainly she wore a blank expression, whenever she didn't know there was a camera on her. Unlike the other grinny/giggly/gushy lot.

Congrats to Yowler and Lau! :D
Happy 1st anniversary!
:salut:  :hail:
I have enjoyed meeting all of you dino-Aspies, who have made your way in life largely by your own wits. Obviously, none of us made our way through life unscathed, and many of us arrived at this oasis needing a big swig of caffeinated drink of choice, and a big bite of muffin - yet we had learned by prior experience to lurk a bit, take a peek inside, and examine the room for boobytraps before making our entrance. :P  I'm thankful all of you decided to make the plunge!! ! :D (I held Lupine's brave hand and joined immediatelyafter she did - and witnessed that she survived the ordeal. :P  ) This cafe' and its predecessor have been enjoyable way stations in my journey. I can see that many of us are re-energizing and moving on. It is good to know that all of you kindred spirits are out there, and that we can re-connect here as we please. I thank both Yowler and Lau for inviting me (or at least not booting me out after I barged in), and for creating threads that looked inviting and interesting enough for me to want to say "Hey-y'all!! !"

Welcome Soon! Have a muffin, drink of choice, and come and go as you please! :D

I hated Valentine's day when I was a child at school, because the teachers always made everyone bring in cards for the whole class. The sheer hypocrisy of receiving cards from the same kids who hated your guts, was staggering. And they hadn't even picked them out, themselves. Their parents bought cheap packets of variety cards, and all the kids had to do was write names on the envelopes. And if you didn't bring in cards for your darling classmates, you couldn't have any punch and cookies. :x

They punished kids for not bringing anything?? That's so wrong!! I personally hated Valentine's day for the same reasons as you, and I still do. I got very mad at my ex the first Valentine's Day we were together. He spent all year acting like a jerk, treating me like crap and then figured he'd be nice because social conformity said it should be so. I can say I hope I earned the "B" word on that occasion. If you can't be nice the other days of the year, why would you try to be on that one day?

(Okay, I'm done ranting for this year.)

I always loved Valentine's Day in elementary school. Every year the class made a beautiful "drop box" or mail box by decorating a cardboard box. There was a slit in the top for dropping in your valentines. I thought the valentines were beautiful and loved sending them to all of my class mates. Of course I liked receiving them too. Back in those days, school wasn't so hard and I don't think anyone seriously disliked me. I just kept to myself most of the time, but no one then was evil or malicious towards me. I think they respected my intelligence and my position at the top of the class. They admired me in many ways I think. The valentines in those days were not so commercial and theme oriented. Hearts & flowers, Dogs & Cats. We weren't forced to bring in valentines, we could if we wanted to.

This year, my husband gave me a hammock swing/chair that is so comfy to climb into and read from, and you can pull up your legs and use your heels to open it up to hold your full body. I gave him a water-repellent wire-bound book which identifies all saltwater fish in Florida along with the regulations for their size and daily limit. We bought some tequila and margarita mix and cooked lobster tail and scallops. Then we watched "Seven Years In Tibet" and it was a very nice Valentine's Day for us.

All congratulations should be directed at Yowler... as it was her idea and correct vision of exactly what would work.

I took me a fortnight to contribute to the original, and that was when it had reached the heady heights of page 4.

So... I make it just over an hour and a half to the exact moment the cafe opened for business... no... scratch that... pleasure!

Thanks, Chuck and Lau - two of the finest gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure of knowing! Two gee-knee-us type dudes, if ever there were.
Lau is a most excellent aspie-herder. And Chuck's the powertrain of the Cafe.
Birthday cake is on the pile of rocks over by the creek. Help yourself.
It's a sunny day and the squirrels will get to it first, so grab it while you can!
Drinks are on the house.
