Hi there,
I'm new to this place, but I'm glad I stumbled on it. My son is 5 years old, and was diagnosed last year as PDD-NOS. I spent 2 years telling my husband and various doctors that "something just isn't right - he's so painfully shy and won't talk or look at other adults, etc." They all told me I was being too sensitive and my husband actually told me I was seeing these things because my influence was making our son behave these ways. Seriously, no kidding - I'm going to need therapy for many years to rid myself of the thought that I caused my son's behaviour. Fun, hey?
Well, now one year after diagnosis, with no specific intervention, just me researching and trying to teach Luke to learn some social behaviours he is doing great! He still prefers to play by himself unless one of his very select good pals are around, and is still very, very shy around other adults, but I'm so hopeful that school will go well in the fall.
Am I crazy to be so hopeful?
Wow, that's a lot for my first post.
thanks for being here.
