Came across this via some Fetal Alcohol Syndrome stuff (mom drank & abused prescription drugs when she was pregnant with me). Thought I would take this quiz.

Your Aspie score: 135 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 61 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

So, what does this mean, and what (if anything) should I do? Already been dx'ed with ADD (no hyperactivity) year ago, BTW.

Hi, welcome.

What you do from here is entirely up to you. Two things you might want to do are:

>Take a look at the DSMIV criteria for Asperger's Syndrome and see if they apply to you.

>Wander around on this board for a bit and read the older posts. Do take advantage of the search feature if you have specific questions; there may already be a link.

Regards,

Patricia

Garner more info. ADHD is related and may cause some overlap. Take the AQ http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html just as an additional resource. If you have good insurance, you could also seek a more formalized Dx. Asperger's wasn't even considered "DSM real" until 1994, so if your ADHD Dx came before that, another observation could be warranted.

Otherwise, hang out, kick back, and see if you are like us. Check out a "general symptoms" list, but be wary since the Dark Gift tends to manifest itself differently in all of us :)

ADD (no H) DX came in 2001. MMPI came back invalid that same year, during a point in my life where everything fell apart and I couldn't function for a couple years. Why I didn't kill myself then is beyond me.

1991 is when I found out about how much my mother drank when she was pregnant with me. Guess it seemed like a good thing to share when i was in rehab, why she thought I was having a drinking problem in high school.

Took some psychological testing in middle school (mid 80's) that said two things that stuck out at me. One was a severe inability to understand cause/effect relationship sequences. The other was that there was a fear of sociopathic behaviour in me.

Wow, you're higher than me!

Well, please don't take me as a jackass but... purely "technically", ADD no longer exists. It's all ADHD now (crazy, no? I agree). No worries; your Dx was in 2001 when ADD still existed. No harm, no foul. Update the schema and move forward.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. Memphis Multiphasic Meh, it should be called. I know it backwards and forwards. I've personally scored hundreds of MMPIs in particular (amongst other "pigeonholing" tests) back in the days of vinyl overlays (rather than computers). If the MMPI comes back "invalid" it means you failed the "F" scale. I don't really want to go into that further. Especially if this made you want to off yourself! All I can say is I'm sorry about that and that tests are tests and are only guidelines. They are not indicative of YOU as a person!

You seem pretty sharp now though! Maybe I'm way off base, but it sounds like you were strong enough to overcome that part! Sorry if I sound like I'm belittling; I really just don't know the details.

Och! Crap, man, you've hit one of the guys who can certainly relate to you about a drinking issue. Alcoholism is no joke. I struggle with it today, even. I don't pity you; I relate to you, my brother.

Oh gawd... no, no, no, man. Psych tests, especially 80's psych tests are all geared towards certain things with certain agendas. This was the era of pop psychology and Duran Duran. (actually, I miss Duran Duran...) But anyhow, discount that crap totally. You don't ring sociopathic to me and you might just be mistaking your general AS ennui as sociopathy and spuriously blaming yourself for something you are not! So what if you don't have feelings for your "fellow man". This is not at all unusual amongst us to have difficulty in making a "connection" there.

If it really bugs you, find out what you are NOW as opposed to 20 years ago. There is a lot more knowledge out there and a lot more information.

And please hang around. I feel some kind of connection to you. Don't blame yourself. Don't blame your mom. Your test scores make it pretty likely that you've found your home and your people. This is who... no, this is what you are. And it ain't too bad a group to belong to!

thankfully I've been sober since I was 16. it's been the only constant positive, although at 34 now I'm so far removed from my drinking days that I have a hard time fitting in in AA.

Well, I'm not really sure WHAT i am at this point, other than a damn mess. I can't seem to manage anything, especially money and holding down a steady job. I'm not even 100% sure that I'm an aspie or not, some things fit... but I can't get the "Rain Man" image out of my mind (although I think my lack of ability to conceptualize money properly to pay bills might be quite similar).

All I know is that I'm living up to what so many people think I'm capable of, and they can't seem to understand why. I haven't been able to understand where I'm going wrong either.

I was in AA for twenty years and stopped going much after the first 10 years. I had been an inspirational speaker, 12th steps, representitive, all of that. But after a while I got bored because all they talked about was booze and frankly, AA got me over that. At the 20 year mark I just didn't go any more, and now, 5 years after that, it is just a memory. I am still sober and for that I am forever grateful. I don't want that to ever get lost, either.

but for years I tried to 'get well' with the rest of them and though I was a squeeky clean sober, and no cigarettes and no coffee and no sugar and no fast food and low fat and low carbs and what ever else, I was still so different from them. It didn't help that they told me 'you are just the same as everyone else' when I so obviously wasn't.

maybe I should start an Aspie AA.

Merle

My results were:
Agree: 2,4,5,6,7,9,12,13,16,18,22,23,26,33,35,39,41,42,43,45,46: 1 point
Disagree: 1,10,11,14,15,17,27,28,29,30,31,32,36,37,38,40,44,47,48,50: 1 point
Score: 41

I took an earliversion of this quiz several years ago. The old version asked questions about what others thought that were difficult to answer. This one is improved by asking, "Do people tell you..."

mra1200,
whats up with your cool spiderweb graph?? Can I have one :?:
