Hi there,

Someone on a parenting forum I use recommended this site.

I have a beautiful 3 year old who is currently going through the diagnoses process for Autism.

I will be honest, I am finding the whole thing quite overwhelming. I didnt know anything about Autism until recently, and realise I have so much to learn.

I just gave birth to my 2nd child 3 weeks ago, and so right now hormones are high.

I hope to make friends, but most of all find out as much information as I can in order to be able to understand and help my little boy as to the best I can.

Thanks for reading,

Xx

Welcome! This place is a great resource. There's a Parent's Forum section with both AS and NT parents as well as a kids area for when the little ones get older. You really seem to have the right attitude :)

Be strong, and know that people are sending positive thoughts your way!

Hi and Welcome.

3 is quite young for a first-child diagnosis, does she show very significant signs or were you just particularly observant?

I'd normally give you a spiel but ViperaAspis seems to have summed up my thoughts more succinctly than I normally would have, so I'll leave it at that.

Enjoy.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Gavin, I agree it does seem quite young from what I have read. However, it looks like all the obvious signs are being displayed for this age, such as no speech, finds life very hard and will cry and cry and cry if placed in a situation not liked, doesnt play with toys, doesnt like to be touched, has lots of his own little routines and loves lines. Its quite hard to explain but he is very different to his peers. Thanks for taking time to reply, x

Hi RjsMummy and welcome to the WrongPlanet. I am sure you will learn much from this website. You will find we love to offer advice and support for any concerns you have. I am a diagnosed autistic of the Asperger's variety. I have been a public school teacher for 21 years. Like you, I have a son undergoing a diagnosis for autism.

I understand that you might feel overwhelmed, but please understand that autism can bring about many gifts that can be rewarding. I try to focus on the good aspects of my autism, and I recommend others do that too. No matter if a person has autism or not, life always has good things and bad things to offer.

If you have any questions about autism feel free to let me know. I, and many others here, will be glad to help you. Many of us here at the WrongPlanet have particular views of autism. I am one of many who regard autism as a difference rather than a disorder. I view autism as a gift in my life. I hope you will find gifts in your son's life too. Best wishes.
