Hello all,

It's been great to find this forum, and read your posts. I'm not diagnosed AS but I'm currently seeking a diagnosis - and not finding it easy so far.

In may ways I'm quite NT - I work full time and live independently. I just feel increasingly socially isolated and unable to relate on a normal level to people, plan my life, my future and keep close friendships. I can really relate to so many of the things I read here and am interested to hear about how other people cope with their lives.

I look forward to posting on this forum!

Hopefully this information may help:
Discovering if your on the autism spectrum, if you have AS can take a while and I often feel people are there own best judges, and to be honest the biggest misconceptions of people being on the autism spectrum is that we are all the same, we are not... in fact can be very diverse and different. So its not a matter of a simply check list, I wasn't diagnosed with any think until in my late 40s, I have many co morbid, associated conditions. Autism is the center, the differently minded part, as for diagnosis.. I feel its best before thinking about being diagnosed, write down as much information as you can will really help, back to when you were a child. As we get older we learn to change and adapt, does not mean we do not still have those differences, do what your doing now research and read as much as you can and then decide, if you feel you are I always say its best to know for sure before being diagnosed, as its not about the label, its about true identity.

Some things you can do, list, criteria ands test:
AS Symtoms (Full Official Criteria) and take the AQ Test:

Hi StillStorm! Welcome to WrongPlanet!

I have been diagnosed as NLD/Asperger's. I find that many people on the spectrum can have NT traits, mostly because we tend to attempt to adapt to them in our odd little ways through-out our lives. But I find that most of the time I would rather philosophize with a single person about the universe and talk their ear off, or pace around the house lost in my own world of conversations with myself and trying to figure out how to convert what's happening in my head into actions I want to really happen.

I'm sure you'll find a great deal of support here, but don't take it personally if someone says something that doesn't sound exactly "friendly." A majority of the time, it's just an ASer's attempt at giving advice, but not using the candy-coated, cherry-on-top form of wording.

I hope you make progress on your diagnosis!

Stillstorm, welcome here.

The exact diagnosis can be nice to know, but finding the appropriate help or information is better. Here on WP are many different people with different experiences, so read a lot and post questions and your experiences.

I work fulltime as well and also rent a place for myself. So it is not strange for someone with a autistic background to function on a sufficient level in society. There are enough problems however...
And probably you ran into them yourself...

Ah well, have fun here.
