May I commence my introduction with a question? Is it common for immediate relatives (one's house-family) to be disinclined to recognize certain Aspergerian traits, but for other relatives and certain perceptive familiars to do so readily? (My mother and sister are adamantly against my doctor's tentative diagnosis, my father writes all psychology off as pseudoscience or half science, but my aunt, cousins, and certain other familiars are more open). Any thoughts?

- A.

Welcome. I'm not sure abo wha tyou ask. My family recognizes my autism traits but writes them off as high intelligence. So it isn't so much that they don't believe I have these traits,b ut that they don't link them to AS.

Many many parents simply cannot accept a diagnosis of their children because of the feelings it arouses in them. It is emotionally safer to deny it.

Thank you for depositing this information. Should I say something about myself? I will tentatively assume "yes."

I am 24 years old and I live in Boston with my cat. I am a graduate student in philosophy here. I began seeing a psychologist here after being misdiagnosed with depressive disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder for years. I am very happy today, but I can't find my pencil, which has brought me down. I work here at the university library, for reference and end-processing.

Actually the question is nicely worded, fairly easy to answer... He asks which of those groups do YOU feel most comfortable with. Imagine yourself in each situation, and see which one feels the best :)

It's especially easy for me... I feel very comfortable with cats and dogs, and very uncomfortable with all the other choices

P.S. - I like polls...

I could not in fact make "no one" an option, since, strictly speaking, it is not an potential answer to the question posed. In that it denies the grounds upon which the question is posed, it is not an answer, but merely a way of declining to answer the question, in which case the question need only not be answered, thus not requiring it as an option. That is, simply not answering the question will precipitate the desired consequence. All questions, I think, are presumptive in this way. I'm sorry for any confusion and perhaps I ought to have included "Other" as an option.
