Hi and Welcome Catherine.

We're all awkward here... and mostly sick of it, though some have learned to cope.

well i love video games...alot. like more than a lets say, "typical" person.
i like music, and wish i had the attention span to learn an imstrument.
i do math for fun. :p
i'm dyslexic. but ive figured out how to work through it.
i'm easily provoked and my feelings are hurt easily.
people tell me i am more mature than an average 13 year old, but they dont know me.
i hate clingy people, crowds, and loud noises.
i like being an aspie because it makes me a little more unique.
i dont like being an asbergian because its really really hard to make friends and talk to people i dont know.
i wish i wasnt like that.
and i have been diagnosed with Asperger's since i was four.

Well, I can't relate to the maths now, though I could at 13 but I do enjoy video games (but I'm not any good at them anymore).

What games do you play - and on what platform(s)?

What kind of music do you like? I'm unlikely to be able to relate to a 13 year old's musical tastes but mentioning some names would probably help others who could relate to come forward.

I don't like clingy people but being male, it's not a problem for me. Crowds freak me out but noises don't ('cos I'm partially deaf).

Hi Catherine

My 20 year old son was just diagnosed with Aspergers last year. He tells people he has Asparagus disease!! :-)

He loves music, all sorts, reads, loves computer games/playstation/xbox, watching sports, he rocks all the time, has a wicked sense of humour and is the most sensitive, loving young man unlike his older brother and younger sister who are totally concerned about themselves!! !

I am incredibly proud, very biased and totally dedicated to my son - I love him so much. He is so sensitive, funny, knowledgeable and different - thank goodness!! Because if we were all clones of someone perfect life wouldnt be worth living. I wouldnt have him any other way.

Finally being able to understand him and where he is coming from is a huge relief!! Sometimes he would drive me insane because I couldnt do anything to change his mind (it was like crashing up against a brick wall). So now I have learnt to let him be who he is!! We all leave him to his own devices and when people criticise him for not having a job we have a wee chat with them to make sure they understand why it is that he cannot do manual labouring jobs. (With Shea his physical coordination and fine motor skills leave a lot to be desired - unless he is fiddling with a computer and then he has no problems).

Shea doesnt like strangers, crowded shopping malls or nightclubs (but he will go occasionally). Luckily the little town he lives in has a main street instead of a mall!! And all his mates know how he feels about clubs so if he says no he doesnt want to go then they dont push him.

Because he has grown up in the same town all his life he is comfortable there and he has a lot of friends (his brother and sisters friends all treat him like their brother as well) so he is very lucky.

Sometimes I wonder who defines the "normal world" and what they base that on. You are normal, so is Shea - you eat, sleep, drink, laugh, cry just like everyone else. We should be celebrating your uniqueness!! ! You are two of the lucky ones because it is accepted that you are different - if I do something out of the ordinary people think I am an alien!! ! :-)

Have a great day.
Minniemum
