Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a youth worker and I run youth clubs and activities for young people who are on the spectrum and in mainstream education. I am NT myself. I have a younger brother with AS. I have done this job for 4 years but only part time and we have just got the funding through for me to go full time! (I work for a charity) It's really exciting and I am looking forward to developing more autism-specific youth work. I have joined the forum because I wanted to plug in more to the wider AS and ASC community to help inform my youth work.

What I wanted to know is if any of you know of any autism-specific youth work or youth clubs that happen around the country? I have googled and found a few things but I would like to build up a more accurate picture.

Thank you in advance, and nice to meet you.

Ruth

Welcome to Wrongplanet.

We have the Autism Education Center in Panama City, Florida. http://www.autismeducationcenter.net The center currently offers support to children, you, and adults with all forms of autism. We even offer support to the NT families of people affected by autism. I am teaching technology courses at the center.

Welcome.

I'm trying to start a Neuro club at the elementary school where I coach the after-school rugby club. I'm aspie, and have agreed to be a visible 'role model' at the school (or cautionary example <grin>). I know there's a Neuro club in Palo Alto, but I haven't been able to check on it yet. I want to meet the aspie/autie kids at my school first.

The ideas I got from kids and former kids on WP were to form a club (not sure what we would do), have a chill/stim room, and have a place where the kids could keep and use things related to their Special Interests in the middle of the day.

School just started, and I've exchanged some emails with the special ed teachers, but we haven't met and talked about it yet.

So, I'm very interested. Feel free to PM me.

There is a great place in my area of the USA called the Kelberman Center for Autism located between Albany and Syracuse in New York State. It has many outstanding programs and services for kids and adults. If you want to learn more about this terrific
facility, just GOOGLE its name...Kelberman Center for Autism.
