Hi everyone
I'm a new member, the parent of a 14 yr old Aspie, and I've signed up in the hope that I can get to know my son better, help him cope with life better, and overall be a better father, friend, and coach. We live in the Denver area (obviously) and he is in the 8th grade, in a public school, and struggles quite a bit with the logistics of getting to class prepared and on time. He's a great kid, got many gifts, and we have a lot of fun together. I think I've got a pretty realistic view of the challenges he faces, and I'm not out to fix anyone, just trying to take care of my family and help prepare him to lead an independent and happy life. He is my hero, as I admire all the hurdles he has cleared so far and the courage he has to face what can be a very cruel world every day. It is very frustrating for me not to be able to help him in many situations, but as you all probably well know, we all must travel our own path in life and learn our own lessons through experience.
One question I have is, how are NTs comments' typically received in these forums? It seems to me that most of these forums are written by Aspies for Aspies, and I feel like an outsider. How would you feel about me commenting in a respectful and civil manner on AS-specific questions and issues, that you may believe I have no clue about?
Lastly, many kudos to the developer of this site and the members, who have created a very safe, engaging, and valuable community.
