Hi,
I don’t know exactly what one is supposed to say in this type of posts, but I’ll try. First of all, I’m sorry for possible mistakes – English is not my native language (I’m from Russia).
I’m 31 and I was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome two years ago, and this was the first time diagnosis fit and “felt right”, when I searched for more information about it. Previously I was diagnosed with: schizoid personality disorder, “just some” personality disorder, neurosis, ADHD, generalized social phobia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (that’s for my stimming behaviors), hypochondria (that was for describing my sensory issues as a form of pain), major depression (I think that was the only one correct, I do experience severe depression from time to time).
I have studied in mainstream school and then went to university, but that was nightmare. I was bullied almost every day. Even in university – and I thought it’ll be better there. I think I can write a monograph about diversity in forms of bullying and its changes in different educational settings. Not to mention that exact settings are nightmarish for me in their own right. I have extreme problems with loud noises, especially loud talking and screaming. Today I seriously consider permanently wearing earplugs that block almost all sound. Large groups of people (“large” as in “more than 1-2 persons”) easily overwhelm me and lead me to exhaustion. And I often have difficulties with understanding other people speech and lots of other difficulties really.
I was chronically unemployed and couldn’t keep any job, until I begun volunteering in charitable organization (I think they just found it difficult to kick out unpaid volunteer, who did more than anybody else, despite how “weird” and “asocial” she was). And so I became this non-profit worker in some time, and now I work for different non-profits for several years.
My main interests are: disability rights movement, animal rights, social justice, sci-fi books, opera. In my free time I like to talk with my friends (though more often I communicate with them only in written form) and spend some quality time with my 2 dogs and 4 cats.
