Just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself. I just recently found out about Aspergers from a friend who mentioned her daughter was getting tested. She then posted a facebook video about Aspergers and I, like I often do, have to research something if I don't know what it is :)

Despite the smiley, I'm quite distraught over this, as I have no health insurance and have spent the last four days trying to find anybody in Michigan's lovely government who will help me find out what to do about a suspected adult case of Aspergers.

Most of them acted like I was insane to be wanted to be tested as an adult, and I believe I may have went off on an Easter Seal's help line because they directed me to the people who handle testing, only to be met with a, "We don't know anything about where an adult would go to get tested." ME: "But, you help adults who are diagnosed, right?" HER: "Yes, we do." ME: And you don't provide services unless they are tested? " HER: "Yes, that's is correct." ME: "And this is your testing help line? HER: Yes, we help people with getting tested. ME: So, you don't have any idea where I can go in the area to get tested?" HER: "No, we don't know of anywhere you can be tested. Why do you want to be suddenly tested?" ME: AHHHHHH!! WTF kind of organization IS this?!"

And so it went on...and I have so far submitted myself to getting books from the book store, and looking for help online...since I don't think I'm going to get much help unless I do it myself!! Maybe someone on here knows of a good specialist in Michigan who can help, even if I have to pay out of pocket (i.e. almost maxed out credit cards...) to get a diagnosis...and I'm severely doubting whether or not if I DO get diagnosed whether it would even be of any benefit in this state....but at least I can learn from and socialize with like minded people on here!

So, yeah, end of my rant!! HI!! !

Welcome - you don't need to be tested, you can just be undiagnosed If you are close to Lansing (or not) there is an autism society in the old part of town. You could contact them and see if they have leads and info you are looking for.

Hi, welcome. Why do you want to be diagnosed? Do you need therapy or support services? If not, it is likely tha thte process of getting diagnosed will cost you more (financially, practically and emotionally) than it gives you. You are welcome here and in msot other online AS groups without a diagnosis. I don't know abou toffline social/support groups though.

Thanks for the welcomes :)

And I would like some kind of support or services if there are any...I can't seem to hold a job and could never figure out why-I always tried really hard too.

I don't want disability forever, or anything like that-but at least until I can figure out how to act in a workplace. Any support on getting a job would be helpful. Maybe just therapy would help-but you need a job to pay for that usually?!

Just knowing what is wrong is a big help-and I am reading all kinds of books, but if I had a dx than I would have a reason for all of my past bad job references if I were to look for a job again. I guess I just want some verification that that is what is wrong...that I'm not just a bad person-I know I'm not, but after 30 yrs of being treated that way, no matter how hard you try to be nice...you start to wonder!
