Just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself. I just recently found out about Aspergers from a friend who mentioned her daughter was getting tested. She then posted a facebook video about Aspergers and I, like I often do, have to research something if I don't know what it is
Despite the smiley, I'm quite distraught over this, as I have no health insurance and have spent the last four days trying to find anybody in Michigan's lovely government who will help me find out what to do about a suspected adult case of Aspergers.
Most of them acted like I was insane to be wanted to be tested as an adult, and I believe I may have went off on an Easter Seal's help line because they directed me to the people who handle testing, only to be met with a, "We don't know anything about where an adult would go to get tested." ME: "But, you help adults who are diagnosed, right?" HER: "Yes, we do." ME: And you don't provide services unless they are tested? " HER: "Yes, that's is correct." ME: "And this is your testing help line? HER: Yes, we help people with getting tested. ME: So, you don't have any idea where I can go in the area to get tested?" HER: "No, we don't know of anywhere you can be tested. Why do you want to be suddenly tested?" ME: AHHHHHH!! WTF kind of organization IS this?!"
And so it went on...and I have so far submitted myself to getting books from the book store, and looking for help online...since I don't think I'm going to get much help unless I do it myself!! Maybe someone on here knows of a good specialist in Michigan who can help, even if I have to pay out of pocket (i.e. almost maxed out credit cards...) to get a diagnosis...and I'm severely doubting whether or not if I DO get diagnosed whether it would even be of any benefit in this state....but at least I can learn from and socialize with like minded people on here!
So, yeah, end of my rant!! HI!! !
