Hi I've been browsing this site for a while now and I've just recently decided to actually start posting. =P
So here's a bit about myself.
I was diagnosed with Aspergers when i was 4 and wasn't actually told about it until i was about 12.
I was never sure if it was a correct diagnosis, but from what I've learned on this site I'm pretty sure that they were right.
Needless to say learning this bit of information at the age of 12 was quite overwhelming and to this day i cant help but feel ashamed
and even scared, hopefully now that I've decided to try to be sociable maybe i can get some help in overcoming these feelings and possibly help out
some other people too.

You've probably been through more in your life than most "normal" people could ever handle.... so it's nothing to be ashamed of. In a way, it's something to be proud of. I guess it's hard to see it like that sometimes, I know I struggle with it, but the way I see it, however weak other people perceive me to be, I know they couldn't survive in my shoes for more than five minutes.

No problem! Any aspie is by definition an amazing person, just for the sheer amount of crap we have to go through...

I was thinking one day - the cool guy with the good looks and the job and the pretty girlfriend and the bunch of friends and an easy life, sure he looks like the successful one. But actually surviving and trying to succeed in a confusing world of sensory overload around a bunch of people that don't understand... now THAT takes something special. Seriously 8)

Although they might be few and far between, there will be people out there who respect you for that. And everyone on here does, for sure.

I am new too and I am not familiar with how to post on a forum, so I hope this works. I have long known that something was different about me and just recently was diagnosed with Asperger's. I found this site and have been reading and I can understand what you all are talking about in a way I can't with NT's. (New word I have learned the past couple of weeks.) I have always tried in my own way to explain how things are for me...Like looking at life in the reflection of a broken mirror, where as everyone else seems to be looking through a clear window. I have tried to tell a couple of people that I have Aspergers, now that I have a name for it, and the response I get is that I'm too smart to be autistic or they feel the same way about social situations so they must be aspie too, or "We're all the same anyway. (So why aren't you more like me, just try harder)" This is very frustrating. I was so relieved when I got the diagnosis. I thought that now people would be able to understand that I'm not stupid or crazy, I'm just wired differently, like Greenturtle says.
