This forum came up while I was searching for information about AS. I was impressed by the knowledge and friendliness exhibited by some of the members, and wanted to join the conversation. So, hi! I'm a 38 year old engineer, married, with a house, two dogs, and five cats, living in northern California.
I haven't been formally diagnosed as AS, and for years I took others' assessments of me with a grain of salt. Some friends of the family who work with autistic children have made certain observations about me, but what's in a label, anyway? Whether some of my behavior can be considered symptomatic of AS or not, that behavior still is what it is. Labelling it won't change anything; I still need to deal with the consequences of my habits and lack of understanding. As I'm getting older, however, and the responsibilities of home and career are piling up, I've started wondering if coping mechanisms which work for AS might also work for me. So began my searches, and that has led me here, still searching for tips and advice.
So .. I'm here to learn. My mind is open, and I anticipate asking many questions (and answering what I can). Be seeing you in the forums!
