Hello, I am 50 years old and just found out I has Asperger's. My son who is 14 was just diagnosed. While I have been doing the research to find out how to help him, so many answer's in my own life have been answered. I thought I was just "off" my whole life. I was convienced that I was just different and thats the way it was. But now I'm finding that that is not the case. from the constent crying in middle school. To the bulling and the torment in my younger life. I could go on and on. My story is just so crazy. I'm sure I can write a book about it.

In young adulthood I could never hold a job. I joined the Army when I was 19 because I couldn't hold a job. That was a nightmare. I was discharged early cause I couldn't find a "safe place". It was horrible. When I was 10, my parents sent me to military school because I was a "problem child" , that was really bad. I cryed everyday. I was away from my "safe" place for 2 weeks at a time and forced to be social. Everyone always made fun of me and tormented me. I was an outcast. I always thought everyone was looking at me and talking about me.

I could go on and on. But I need a place where I an get all the info I can on how to make my sons life easier than mine was. Last April my wife of 16 years died of a heart attack in our living room. Ever since then I have been a mess. Two months later I last my job and my house because I couldn't cope with life without my only friend. My son has blocked her out of his mind and has burried himself into video games.

I am really hoping I can find some comfort and answers here.

Thanks for listening

keith, welcome.

Sorry to hear about your wife.

I think your son burying himself in videogames is quite fortunate. Videogame addiction can be difficult, but it rarely kills people. Losing him to heroin would be much much worse.
