Hello, I am Patti and Monastic by nature. I am quite a silent person by nature but every now and then, I'm very vocal. I suppose it depends on the subject. I love gardening, my dogs and my (currently) five cats that were abandoned at my doorstep at various times. I am on the autistic spectrum (dx'ed High Functioning, Obsessive Compulsive and ADD) as is one of my sons and one grandson (so far his dx is PDD). I hope to get to know other Autistic individuals.

Hello, and welcome to wrongplanet. I am bipolar and am currently being evaluated for PDD. My son has a diagnosis of atypical PDD NOS. He is 24 and was diagnosed at age 4. My 7 year lod nephew is diagnosed with asperger's, and I know for sure that at least one cousin falls on the spectrum. My first grandchild is due in March, so I thought it likely that we are at least near the same age. I am 51. We just got back from camping today, (my husband had vacation.), and I'm really tired, so I won't say any more now. I hope to see more posts out here from you in future. Night

Yes, we are close to the same age. I am 47. My youngest son is 26 but was only diagnosed within the last couple of years. Actually, just a few years ago was when we all found out. It was my grandsons diagnosis of PDD that made the whole family take notice of each other and say, "Ahh, so that's the name for it." So many of us in my family have certain traits and so it seems so natural and ordinary to us.
My grandson was three and a half and was still not talking. When my daughter-in-law out of concern, mentioned this to the Dr. he wrote down "PDD?" on my grandsons chart, didn't mention it to her, just wrote it down. My daughter-in- law saw this and when she returned home, she called me and asked me, "Mom, what does PDD mean?" I told her I didn't know but would find out. When I looked it up on the internet, I saw myself, my son and grandson in the discriptions. The diagnosis of us came shortly afterward. My grandson is 5 and talks non-stop now. I suppose he never felt the need to communicate verbally when he was three.
I can't wait to take my grandson camping, he loves the outdoors. I live in the country and we hike through the woods often but have never camped out. He has a new baby brother now and things have been busy at his house. Who knows if the newest grandson will have autistic traits. I know that both grandsons seem to have a real bond between them, and it is such a joy to see them smiling and laughing with each other. Thanks for the welcome, Debbie.
