Hey guys. I heard alex on NPR and thought I'd check this place out.

I've thought I had Asperger's for a few years now. I'm not diagnosed, but I was diagnosed with ADD (not ADHD) at a young age- I think they were close, but Aspie's describes me to a T.

About me: I'm Ryan. I'm 23, I sing, play bass, produce music and go to work as a contract OSP engineer at AT&T. I'm very analytical- I write music in my head and transcribe it on the computer... But I don't exactly thrive in social situations. I'm not a huge nerd, I just get a bit overwhelmed when I'm hanging out with multiple people. I do great one-on-one, but any more than that and I'm back in my shell, thinking about whatever my heart desires, in great depth, occasionally getting excited and blurting things out that are completely unrelated to the conversation going on around me.

I manage to snap out of it for entire conversations at a time often enough to where I'm not dysfunctional, but it's like being "in my own little word" is my natural state.

So. Do you guys think this sounds like Aspergers?

Hello Ryan, welcome,

Might be that you have Asperger's.

Enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

I don't remember which program actually... They've had several about asperger's. It was during the call-in section-- he dropped the website name while they had him on the air-- which I'm pretty sure is against the rules! haha.. But yeah. I was intrigued by the name of it. WrongPlanet. I can relate to that.

I just watched the video-- autism reality. great video. Really relatable--- except for the thing with affection--- i don't really have that problem. But as far as how my mind works-- exactly like that.

You know, they say man has stayed the same intelligence and hasn't evolved at all since he became.. well, man. I think that's basically because aspies never get laid! :D

I went to the NPR site and saw they recently had a segment on Oxytocin and Autism. Maybe it was that. I thought perhaps they were interviewing him.

Yeah it's a good show. NPR in general is pretty great. They get fixated on a topic for weeks at a time sometimes though, that can get annoying. But they're not near as bad as the major news outlets at it.

i'm glad at least one person signed up on Wrong Planet after I went on. Was that really against the rules?

Oh I don't know, I always figured they wouldn't want people using the show as a promotional tool.. But you're not really selling anything, plus it was actually relevant. Helpful, actually.

If it is against the rules then I'm glad you got away with it!

To WrongPlanet!! !Image

Mentioning the site is not against NPR rules but trying to promote for profit is.

I'm not going to tell you where Alex spoke,
because the whole thing is just a can of words,
raising issues and considerations and going off on sidelines

But raising some important problems which I am personally completely unable
to reply to.

p.s. Hi Ryan! :D

It really doesn't matter at all.

Welcome to Wrong Planet! This may be a tiny bit off-topic, at least to the one being discussed now, but Ryan, what style of music do you produce? ^_^ I do it myself so I was curious =P
