Hi. I'm 33 I live with a very understanding wife and currently do respite care for an autistic child on the higher end of the spectrum. I also have a nephew on the low functioning end. My wife thinks I'm an aspie, my family thinks I'm an aspie, I can run through the diagnostic criteria like a check list and documents from my grade school days (prior to Asperger's being in wide use as a diagnosis) show a multitude of symptoms that would today probably have wound up with me being diagnosed in early grade school. Currently I have not been diagnosed.

This seems as good a place to ask as any, better than most in fact.

At my age is there any value in getting diagnosed as Asperger's that would offset the fact that I have to take time out of my day and talk to a stranger to be diagnosed? I have enough trouble talking to people I know.

Edit: Just found out about various online tests.

BAP: scored 120 aloof, 89 rigid and 97 pragmatic
I can't finish the AQ the questions are too imprecise.
EIQ: Questions 89 and 90 I think I got right base on a purely academic understanding. Question 93, insufficient data.
Subscale IQ score = 82
Subscale percentile = 13
HSP: 13
'Reading the mind in the eyes' test: 18 (would have done worse if it hadn't been multiple choice. My interpretation of their mood was rarely an option)
Aspie quiz: Question 17 I fail to see the relevance. Religious/Spiritual aspies will say yes others likely no. Some of these seem to deal with oddly specific obsessions/behaviors that I suspect wouldn't be found in most of the community but maybe I'm unfamiliar with aspie culture. 79 . . . more religious questions. These really need to be removed as irrelevant. 85 that depends on what my initial judgment WAS. 91 Yes, but the views of my peer group are not in sync with the views of most people. That's why I chose them for my peer group. 107 whats with all the religious questions? Seems a bit of a bias on the part of the test designer. Very off putting. Isn't 137 a rephrase of 101? I hate answering questions twice. 152 . . . another repeat. 154: Are shaving and haircuts norms of hygiene? 163: Was once told by my optometrist he'd never seen someone so photosensitive. 177, another oddly specific question. I admit answering yes but still oddly specific.
Your Aspie score: 128 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 62 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie
Your MBTI type: INFP

Sorry for the commentary. I drive people who try to give me tests like this IRL nuts too.

Welcom to WP, RedWulf!

I wish I had a good answer to your question, but I'm in a similar state. I'm 34, soon to be 35 (yeah yeah yeah! I love my bday!) anyway, I suspect I have it but don't have the extra money to be diagnosed right now. I feel the same, I go down the symptom list like check, check, check...

The other day there was someone who posted a similar question and he got a bunch of different answers...maybe two days ago? I think the thread was called something like "I don't know if I have it or not" or something to that effect. Some told him not to bother, others said it really depended on how he felt. I got an adult diagnosis of ADHD in 2006 because i was having trouble at my job. I got there on time, had great attendance, worked diligently, etc., but just couldn't hit the numbers. With therapy alone I was able to triple my productivity. So, for me, in that case, going to talk to someone (I know, weird) really helped me. And, I was helped in many ways, like at home and managing my hobbies (which get out of control) which I didn't expect. So, in my experience at least, getting help late was still really great.

I'd like to see someone about Asperger's because for me, it would be personally helpful (whether I was diagnosed or not), and I'd be willing to undergo all that logistical stuff to get answers and some help. I suppose you have to weigh its pros and cons in your heart. Maybe it would be helpful to know for sure...?

You may be interested in the Aspie quiz in the scientific quizzes forum. Those have been helpful to me and are the first step in me getting my broke self to a professional.

Anyway, welcome!
Happy

Thanks for the input. I just found some of those quizzes myself. 120% is quite a lot . . . planning to edit my OP with some of the results.
