After doing some research about autism and asperger's things in my life are making sense for the first time. It started while watch the TV show Community and someone mentioned asperger's and I didn't know what it was. A couple weeks went by and I was sitting at my computer and decided to look it up. All of the symptoms described me almost perfectly. Then I watch the HBO movie about Temple Grandin and while not as severe as Temple's the way it showed how she sees and reacts to the world and people around her really felt familiar.

I have always felt like I wasn't like most people. I never really knew about autism before and was under the misconception that people with it were "stupid". It wasn't until I looked into it that I found out what it is really like. Now I see that other people out there are like me. I don't see it as something that is wrong with me just that I'm different. Everyone is different but it is nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels and acts like I do.

Welcome! I'm new here, too and only recently started looking into AS when my husband said it really seemed like me. So I looked it up and was amazed. And it is very nice to see that there are others out there who are like minded.

Howdy Neighbor! Welcome to wp. I'm from RI myself. I saw that movie too. I confess I thought kind of like you did about autism, not that people with it were stupid, because I knew from watching many documentries about autism even before being diagnosed that many of them can be geniouses, but from what I've seen many of them can't function away from their home and caregivers, like baby geniouses. Which, now I know, isn't true. Not everyone with autism is like that, at least. Anyway, welcome!
