My son's music

Right now I'm doing the posting but trying my best to get my son to get on here and post. Not much luck right now. But one of the things that he's into (and he gets teased endlessly for it) is death metal. I'm not exactly thrilled about it but am trying to open about it. He likes things like Dethklok (sp?) And like I said, the kids at his school are all into rap and such and they ridicule him for his choice in music. He also plays electric guitar and is trying to emulate his death metal idols and their speed riffs. And he's also into guitar hero. Are there others out there (either kids or parents of kids) who are into similar things?

Hm. I'm not into death metal, but I did want to welcome you. Maybe you could start a thread in the random section to see if anyone's into it (in case they haven't checked in here) or the Art, Writing and Music section. You know, a complimentary area of interest which you might find more mom/dad friendly is norse mythology - there are so many spring boards, so to speak. Anyway, he's of course welcome - there's a kids/adolescent section he might like.

First off, Welcome to WrongPlanet! Your son will enjoy it here and we hope you do as well.

Second, let your son know that kids are going to pick on stuff like that and to just ignore it. If he likes death metal, then that is his thing. He is going against the grain (that being rap/etc) and being himself. Do your best to embrace his choice in music, as a rocker myself, I know some of the metal can be a little...well...noisy. Help him with his guitaring. Perhaps introduce him to some musicians (good ones, safe ones) in town. That could help him branch out into more forms of rock (quieter forms ) and learn more about guitar playing and of course make friends.

Third, if your son doesn't right away think WrongPlanet is for him, let him know that it is there and we won't judge, we won't be mean and we are here as friends cause we have Aspergers, Autism, ADHD and the like too...and some of us as rockers as well
