Hi there everyone. I'm new to this forum, having only just found it after some random googling and (of all things) wikipedia. I'm feeling somewhat down tonight so I'm hoping to meet some newcomers here.

I'm 31, and I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was 13. I'm here under a false name (as some of you might have guessed!) because I'm not "out" to my work colleagues. I function almost normally most of the time these days though I come across as a little weird, I have no doubt.

Not sure what else to say here... how do people normally start?

Hi Thom, and welcome here. Wouldn't 31 - 13 mean you were diagnosed 18 years ago? I think you might be just a bit mistaken about the dates, or that would mean you were diagnosed with AS in 1992 (The APA did not recognize AS until 1994, two years later).

I'm certainly not trying to come across as "challenging" you; especially not while you are feeling blue. I'm just seeking understanding. Regardless of when you were diagnosed, you are welcome here among us :)

Hi! Welcome to WP! Hopefully you won't feel down for too long. Maybe try reading the thread "you might be an Aspie if". Some of them are very funny and may help lift your spirits. People here are super nice and I enjoy it - hope you do, too!

Ooooh, there's also the haven where you could post about what's making you blue.

Look forward to reading your posts!

Eighteen years! Blimey. It has been a long time then.
I wasn't really all that aware of what was going on at the time - I think Aspergers was still very new. I remember googling it at the time and getting four hits! You do well to get such a low number on anything these days! Perhaps it wasn't officially recognised for a couple more years - I know my mother was practically crying with relief to learn her son had a condition with a name.

Oh! I understand now. Like how we have an idea about what is going on with the 2012 DSM two years before publication. That makes sense. Thanks.

Wow, four hits. That is something. There's so many hits now that even a misspelling of "Asperger's" yields hundreds. Well, welcome again :)
