Hello, I'm new . . .

I hope I'm welcome here. I have an 11-year-old son with autism. He was diagnosed at three. Right now his main method of communication is scripting. He's also obsessed with the computer and with certain TV shows: Nickelodeon's Brain Surge, PBS's SuperWhy!, WordWorld, WordGirl; and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Sometimes I wonder if both my DH and I have Asperger's. My DH is very smart, but he can be rather clueless in social situations. And I also am rather smart, but I feel rather anxious in social situations. I also feel very threatened when someone disagrees with me (even though I know others have the right to their own opinions).

Neither of us have an official diagnosis. Our son has a label of high-functioning autism. He'll be going into the 6th grade this year and I'm not looking forward to it.

hi Mattmom- welcome to the WP. You say your son communicates mostly by "scripting"- what does that mean exactly? I am fairly new here too, but I bet you know more about Autism than I do.
