Hello everyone. I'm a 20 year old college student from New Jersey, U.S. I am a sophomore studying Applied Physics and Computer Science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ. I enjoy learning about the universe and am able to use what I learn in my classes, especially physics, to figure out how the universe works. It's funny how many times I would learn a new equation or idea and integrate it into my psyche. I am not diagnosed, but I suspect that I am aspergers but with no outward signs except being quiet (when talking socially, not when discussing something I like such as computers or physics). I joined Sigma Pi fraternity to try and learn how to be more social and I've learned a bit but am still not that good.

I learned about aspergers from my friend whose aunt thinks he is an aspie. He describes it as more of an extreme personality but I believe it is just a way about thinking of things (normal people usually think emotionally, I think logically) and that the usual spectrum of personalities applies just as much. His entire family is boarderline insane, so I would not doubt that he is too. He is smarter than me but dropped out of Drexel because it was boring and enrolled in a glass-blowing school.

My mom also had something that prevented her from interacting socially in the usual way and my little brother has ADD so I suspect she either as an aspie or had ADD (or both, or neither -- she's dead now)

I enjoy playing with my computers and learning computer languages. I particularly like Lisp and wrote a bit of an interpreter recently. I'm currently working on a Lisp program to help keep me organized because it's hard for me to do that sometimes. I like Slackware Linux and use it on my laptop computer and yes, I understand it well. I have even thought about writing a new init program but I've got too much stuff to do.

My current physics class is Thermal Physics and it's the craziest thing I've ever taken. That's understandable, since this is the route through which people derived quantum mechanics, which is the craziest theory of physics that has ever worked.

Anyway, I usually read a lot of Slashdot.org and think that the internet is the best thing that has ever happened to the human race since it has instantly democatized the spread of knowledge and can only lead to a more rational, reasonable world.

Welcome to Wrong Planet, boothinator. Check out the Computer forum, if you haven't already. Some of the threads there may interest you.
