Hello my name is Kathy and I recently discovered I may have Asperger's syndrome. I was home-schooled my whole life, because my mother knew their was something different about me and didn't want me to grow up in an environment where my unique abilities would be neutralized. The first question people my age used to ask on meeting me was "Are you a girl or a space alien?" My response was always "both!"

My attributes include only being able to focus all my attention on one thing at a time, a lifelong obsession with birds, a photographic memory and extreme social awkwardness.

Now I'm just wondering where to go to get officially tested.

Hi it's Vikki. I don't know if it will be the same for you, but I went to my Doctor, who referred me to a Psychologist. I had various tests, and was diagnosed with Aspergers last year at the age of 41.

I'd never heard of the condition, but now I have an explaination for how I was whilst growing up.

I have an Occupational Therapist, I also see a Counsellor every few weeks, they're nice people and I have the support there when I need it. If I have a problem, I can just give them a call.

Kathy, I hope you get the help you need, and that maybe I've made things a bit clearer for you. I like to give advice, but it's up to the individual if they want to take it.

Bye Vikki **
